• • <br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />October 22, 1990, Page 2 <br />5. Council considered approving the minutes of the special <br />emergency meeting of Council held October 13, 1990. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLaughlin to approve the <br />October 13 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Cooper. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays (Councilperson <br />Matuszak had not yet arrived). <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Skelton and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />6. A portrait of Evelyn Kennedy, painted by Katherine Coleman, <br />was presented to the City to be hung in the Evelyn Kennedy <br />Civic Center. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Coleman made the <br />presentation. <br />7. The Mayor proclaimed November 5 through 9 as "Paint the Town <br />Orange Week." David Brady and Sharon Marsh, representing the <br />La Porte Bulldog Booster Club, accepted the proclamation. <br />8. Catherine Mahlstedt addressed Council requesting use of the <br />City van for transporting troops from Baytown to La Porte on <br />November 2 and November 7. <br />9. Council considered an ordinance authorizing the City Manager <br />to execute a letter of agreement with Sunbelt Hotels, Inc., <br />for purposes of developing a hotel market study. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1734 - AN ORDINANCE <br />AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH SUNBELT HOTELS, INC., FOR A <br />HOTEL-CONVENTION CENTER MARKET STUDY WITHIN THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE; PROVIDING FOR A CONTINGENT APPROPRIATION OF NOT TO <br />EXCEED $18,000.00, TO BE PAID FROM THE HOTEL-MOTEL TAX FUND; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Cooper to adopt Ordinance <br />1734 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Matuszak. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Matuszak, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Skelton and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />
