<br />. <br /> <br />~. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 980 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULAR ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE CITY <br />OF LA PORTE; CALLING A RUN-OFF ELECTION, IF NECESSARY; DESIG- <br />NATING AN ELECTION PRECINCT AND A POLLING PLACE; PROVIDING FOR <br />THE USE OF VOTING MACHINES; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS; <br />PROVIDING FOR METHOD AND DATES OF ABSENTEE VOTING; PROVIDING <br />FOR RETURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING DEADLINE AND FILING PROCEDURES <br />FOR CANDIDATES; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED ,BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. An election shall be held within the corporate <br /> <br />limits of the City of La Porte, Texas, on the 6th day of April, <br /> <br />1974, such day being the first Saturday in April, 1974, between <br /> <br />seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. and seven o'clock (7:00) P.M., for <br /> <br />the purpose of electing a Mayor of said City; a Commissioner <br /> <br />of said City for Position No.2; and a Commissioner of said <br /> <br />I <br />City for Position No.4. A run-off election, if necessary, <br /> <br />shall be held on May 4, 1974, between the same hours. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Commission of the City of La Porte <br /> <br />hereby designates and establishes all of the area encompassed <br /> <br />within the corporate limits of the City of La Porte, as one <br /> <br />election precinct for this election, and the La Porte Civic <br /> <br />Center, 618 San Jacinto Street, La Porte, Texas, is designated <br /> <br />as the one polling place for such election. Voting machines <br /> <br />shall be used in the conduct of such election. <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br />Mrs. Arbela Ralston <br /> <br />is hereby <br /> <br />appointed Presiding Judge of said election, and Mrs. Isadore <br /> <br />Jenkins <br /> <br />is hereby appointed Alternate Presiding <br /> <br />Judge of said election. The maximum number of clerks which <br /> <br />may be appointed to serve at said election is three (3), who <br /> <br />shall be selected by the Presiding Judge or the Alternate <br /> <br />Presiding Judge, as the case may be. <br /> <br />Section 4. Absentee voting by personal appearance shall <br /> <br />begin on the 20th day and shall continue through the 4th day <br /> <br />preceding the day of the election. Absentee voting shall be <br /> <br />conducted by the City Clerk at the City Hall, 124 S. 2nd Street, <br /> <br />'. <br />
