The City Clerk shall not <br /> <br />permit anyone to vote absentee by personal appearance on any <br /> <br />day which is not a regular working day for the Clerk's office, <br /> <br />or at any time when the Clerk's office is not open to the <br />public. The City Clerk of the City of La Porte is hereby <br />authorized and directed to appoint deputy absentee balloting <br /> <br />clerks, as necessary. <br /> <br />Section 5. Immediately after the close of the polls on <br /> <br />the 3rd day of April, 1976, the election officials shall make <br /> <br />due return thereof to the City Commission of the City of <br /> <br />La Porte, and the City Commission shall canvass said returns <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />at the earliest practicable time, and shall, immediately after <br /> <br />canvassing the returns, declare the results of the election. <br /> <br />The Mayor shall immediately thereafter deliver to the candi- <br /> <br />date for whom the majority of votes has been polled for each <br /> <br />respective office, a certificate of election. Such elected <br /> <br />officials shall assume their duties within ten (10) days <br /> <br />thereafter, Sundays excluded, upon their taking the oath of <br /> <br />office. <br /> <br />Section 6. Notice of said election shall be given by <br /> <br />publication in the La Porte-Bayshore Sun, not less than ten <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(10) days nor more than thirty (30) days prior to the date <br /> <br />of the said election, of the following notice: <br /> <br />"NOTICE OF ELECTION <br /> <br />"I, . I. J. KIBODEAUX, .Mayor Pro-Tern of the City of <br />La Porte, Texas, by virtue of the power vested in me <br />by law, do hereby order that an election be held in <br />the City of La Porte, Texas, on the 3rd day of April, <br />1976, and a run-off election, if necessary, shall be <br />held on April 24; 1976, for the purpose of electing <br />a Mayor; a Commi$sioner for Position 2; and a <br />Commissioner for Position 4; and that said election <br />shall be held at the La Porte Civic Center, <br />618 San Jacinto Street, La Porte, Texas, between <br />seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. and seven o'clock (7:00) P.M. <br />on said date, and the following named persons are the <br />appointed officials of said election, to-wit: <br /> <br />"Presiding Judge <br /> <br />Mrs. Arbela Ralston <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />"Alternate Presiding Judge Mrs. Lorraine Miller <br />
