. . e ORDINANCE NO. 1186 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE REVISIONS TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO SUBMIT THE PORTIONS OF SUCH WHICH AFFECT VOTING, ALONG WITH SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION, TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR APPROVAL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, the Charter Revision Committee has made its final recommendation for rev isions to the Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte and some of such revisions are changes affecting voting in the City of La Porte; WHEREAS, Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 of the 4It United States, Public Law 89-110, requires submission of all pro- posals for changes affecting voting rights prior to making such change; and WHEREAS, the passage of this ordinance constitutes final action on the wording of such changes affecting voting prior to the election concerning such changes; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: Section I. The revisions to the Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte as submitted by the Charter Revision Committee e are hereby approved as submitted and the City Attorney is hereby authorized to submit to the United States Department of Justice all such revisions which will affect voting, along with support- ing documentation requested by the Department of Justice.
