<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />1190 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 23, "TAXATION, " OF THE CODE OF <br />ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, BY EXEMPTING FIFTEEN THOUSAND <br />DOLLARS ($15,000.00) OF THE ASSESSED VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOME- <br />STEADS OF DISABLED ADULTS AND PERSONS SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS OF <br />AGE OR OLDER FROM ALL AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED BY THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE FROM AND AFTER JANUARY 1, 1980: FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH <br />THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW: AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section I. Section 23-3, Chapter 23, "Taxation," of the <br /> <br />Code of Ordinances of the City of La Porte, Texas, is hereby <br /> <br />amended to read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />"TAXATION" <br /> <br />"Sec. 23-3. <br /> <br />Exception to payment of Ad Valorem Taxes. <br /> <br />From and after January 1, 1980, Fifteen Thousand Dol- <br />lars ($15,000.00) of the assessed value of residence home- <br />steads of an adult who is disabled for purposes of payment <br />of disability insurance benefits under Federal Old-Age, <br />Survivors and Disability Insurance, or is sixty-five (65) <br />years of age or older shall be exempted from ad valorem <br />taxes levied by the City of La Porte; provided, however, <br />that any person desiring the right of exemption shall first <br />complete and file with the Tax Assessor-Collector of the <br />Ci ty of La Porte a sworn statement stating his name, age, <br />and the legal description of said residence homestead; if <br />disabled, a copy of Social Security disability certifica- <br />tion; and, provided further, that no residence homestead <br />shall be entitled to more than one residence homestead <br />tax exemption." <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in <br /> <br />force from and after its passage and approval. <br /> <br />Section 3. The City Commission officially finds, deter- <br /> <br />mines, recites and declares that a sufficient written notice of <br /> <br />the date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City <br /> <br />Commission was posted at a place convenient to the public at the <br /> <br />Ci ty Hall of the City for the time required by law preced ing <br /> <br />this meeting, as required by the Open Meetings Law, Article <br /> <br />6252-17, Texas Revised Civil Statutes Annotated; and that this <br /> <br />meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all <br /> <br />4It times during which this ordinance and the subject matter thereof <br /> <br />has been discussed, considered and formally acted upon.
