ORDINANCE NO. 1172 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS DURING CONSTRUCTION ON A PORTION OF SH 146 EAST FRONTAGE ROAD WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, AND PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL UPON CONVICTION BE FINED IN ANY SUM NOT TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00); AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. ~~EREAS, the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation has made it known to the City of La Porte that operations will begin in the near future to construct structures, base, grading, signing, pavement markings, and surface pavement along SH 146 East Frontage Road, and; WHEREAS, in the interest of safety, it is desirable to maintain a construction speed zone during the construction period; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: Section 1. That a construction speed zone be established along SH 146 East Frontage Road from Barbour's Cut Boulevard to North "L" Street a distance of approximately 0.554 miles, 30 miles per hour, when so signed within said zone. Section 2. Necessary signs for posting the speed zone will be furnished, installed, and maintained by d:i,rection of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation engineer in charge of the project. Section 3. Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall upon conviction, be fined in any sum not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00). Section 4. This ordinance shall be in effect only during the period of construction, and completion of the project shall auto- matical1y cancel the speed zone. Section 5. This ordinance shall be effective from and after its passage, approval and publication, as provided by law.
