<br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />1166 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE REVISIONS TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER <br />OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO <br />SUBMIT THE PORTIONS OF SUCH WHICH AFFECT VOTING, ALONG WITH <br />SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION, TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF <br />JUSTICE FOR APPROVAL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Charter Revision Committee has made its final <br /> <br />recommendation for revisions to the Home Rule Charter of the <br /> <br />City of La Porte and some of such revisions are changes affecting <br />voting in the City of La Porte; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 of the <br /> <br />United States, Public Law 89-110, requires submission of all pro- <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />posa1s for changes affecting voting prior to making such change; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the passage of this ordinance constitutes final <br /> <br />action on the wording of such changes affecting voting prior to <br /> <br />the election concerning such changes; NOW THEREFORE: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. The revisions to the Home Rule Charter of the <br /> <br />City of La Porte as submitted by the Charter Revision Committee <br /> <br />are hereby approved as submitted and the City Attorney is hereby <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />authorized to submit to the United States Department of Justice <br /> <br />all such revisions which will affect voting, along with support- <br /> <br />ing documentation requested by the Department of Justice. <br /> <br />Section 2.
