<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1372 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 23, "TAXATION," OF THE CODE OF <br />ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, BY ADDING SECTION 23-4 THERETO, <br />EXEMPTING TWENTY PER CENT (--1..Q.... %) OF THE MARKET VALUE <br />OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEADS, BUT NOT LESS THAN FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS <br />($5,000.00), F:ROM ALL AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED BY THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE FROM AND AFTER JANUARY l, 1984; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH <br />THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. Chapter 23, "Taxation," of the Code of Ordi- <br /> <br />nances of the Ci ty of La Porte, Texas, is hereby amended by <br />adding thereto, Section 23-4, which shall read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />. "TAXATION" <br />"Sec. 23-4. Residence Homestead Exemption. <br /> <br />From and after January l, 1984, twenty per <br />cent ( 20 %) of the market value of the residence homestead <br />of a married or unmarried adult, including one living alone, <br />shall be exempt from ad valorem taxation. However, the <br />amount of exemption authorized by this section may not be <br />less than Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00). An eligible <br />adult is entitled to receive other applicable exemptions <br />provided by law. [Texas Constitution, Art. 8, Sec. l-b(e).]" <br /> <br />Section 2.. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in <br /> <br />force from and after its passage and approval. <br /> <br />Section 3. The City Council officially finds, determines, <br /> <br />e recites and declares that a sufficient written notice of the <br /> <br />date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City Council <br /> <br />was posted at a place convenient to the publ ic at the City Hall <br /> <br />of the City for the time required by law preceding this meeting, <br /> <br />as required by the Open Meetings Law, Article 6252-17, Texas <br /> <br />Revised Civil Statutes Annotated; and that this meeting has been <br /> <br />open to the public as required by law at all times during which <br /> <br />this ordinance and the subject matter thereof has been discussed, <br /> <br />cons idered and formally acted upon. <br /> <br />The City Counc il further <br /> <br />ratifies, approves and confirms such written notice and the <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />contents and posting thereof. <br />
