traffic across~the Houston Ship Channel is retarding the further growth of Harri
County and whi~h can only be alleviated by a new channel crossing such as wiIl
be provided by:the "High Bridge":
NOWr ~HEREFOREt BE, IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF

LA PORTEr TW$ that' the City Commission does hereby endorse and approve the
.Wheel Tax Law~ and the bond issue for the "High Bridge" and does hereby urge
the voters of ~arris County to vote for and to actively support and work for the
passage of thel"lheel Tax Lawn and the nHigh Bridge" bond issue at the election
to be held Sep~ember 17} 1955; and
BE IT FORTMER RESOLVED that the City Commission has determined that it
will be for the!, best interest of each citizen individu.allYr as well as for all
of Harris County generally: for every voter to make a determined effort to go
to the polls o~September 17~ 1955 and cast his or her vote for the two follow-
ing proposition~;
"FOR allowing tbe Commissioners Court to assess thirty-three
and oll:p-third per cent. (33-1/3%) of the annual license fee
on mot,rvebicles ugistered in Harris County for the purpose
of prolidiug right-of-way for the construction of Federal and
State ,ighways";
"FOR t.e Ten Million Dollar ($lOtOOO:OOO.OO) road and bridge
bonds for the construction of ten miles of road and bridge over
the Hotston Ship Channel in the vicinity of Penn City".
BE IT ~URTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be published in the local
newspapers and be given as wide publicity as possible.
AND IT :IS SO ORDERED.
