ORDJNANCE No 156.

Section One: All elections shall be held as provided under
the General Laws for Elections in Cities.
At least Ten (10) days prior to the annual City election, and
all Special elections that may be called, the Mayor shall appoint
a Presiding Officer,which presiding officer shall appoint 2 JUdges
and 2 Clerks-to assist him in holding such election. Such Presiding
Officer and Judges shall have all the powers and duties of Election
Officers under the General Laws; and shall receive for their com-
pensation the sum of Two (2) ~olla,rs per day.

Section Two: Of the Five Aldermen to be elected at the first
election of the City of La Porte under its City Charter, Two shall
be elected for, a period of Two yearseach; and Three shall be elected
"for a period of One year each, and the mode and manner of decid.ing
/IWhiCh members shall hold'fon the long term, and which for the short
term shall be as follows:-
At the first meeting of the City Council following the election
at which time the vote for sllch election shall be canvassed, the
names of the ~ive Aldermen who shall have been declared elected
shall be written on separate pieces of paper, and placed in a hat by
the City Secretary, and the Mayor elect shall draw from such hat
two of such manes, and the Aldermen so named shall hold th.~r office
for a term of Two years; and the other Three Aldermen shall hold
their office for a term of One Year each; and in each succeed,ing
year there shall be elected Three Aldermen, and "Two Aldermen respec-
tively as their term may expire, which Aldermen shall be e1ectod
for a term of Two Years each.
Section Threelhis Ordinance shall take effect from and after
its passage.

Of the City of La Porte, Texas, levying a tax of one quarter of
On, per cent, upon and against all taxable property in the City of
La'Porte, for the year 1916, for imprGvement purposes.
BE IT ORDAINED: By the City Coun.il of the City of La Porte:-
Section One: ~hat a tax of one-quarter of One per cent ,be, and
the same 1s hereby levied and assessed upon and against all taxable
property, both real and personal, lying and being situated in the
City of La Porte fGr the current year, begimnlng on the First day
of January 1916, and ending on the Thirty-first day of Oecember
1916, for improvement purposes.
