Change or name fro~Sylvan Beach to r. Porte Beach.
A special' meeting or the City Council of La Porte was held at thQ
oj'rice of the Mayor, with all the members answering roll call.' The
mEteti:mg was called for the purpose of considering an Ordinance, pre-
pELTed by the Galveston & San Antonio Railway Co in pursuance of 'a
pJ'oposal adopted by said Council at a recent meeting regarding the
changing of name of Sylvan Beach Station to"TJa Porte Beach".
Said ordinance was inspected by the City Attorney before it
cnme up for reading, aDd was approved by him. The Ordinance as
d)"awn, up by them is as follows:-
A~ ORDINANCE: accepting th~ offer of the Galveston, Harrisburg
and San Antonio Railway Company, with respect to change of name of
S1iation of gylvan Beach to La Porte and accepting' and approving trai
tl:"ain service of said station and the station of TJa Porte.
, WHEREA~: The Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio Railway Co
owns, maintains and oper.atos two lines of , railroad through, and in
tb~' vicinity of the Town of La Porte, the station now and for many
Y)laars: known as La' Porte, bei~g a short distance West of the Ci ty
:Lmi t:s of said town, ,and the station for many years known as Syl-
van Beach being within the corporate limits of said town, and said
ffilil~ray Company ,maintains and operates said station of La Porte for
gl~mel'al freight and passenger business, and maintains and operates
sliid station at Sylvan Beac.h ,for limi ted and special passenger busi-
n,es~ ,only ,and ,the citizens of said TJa Portehave objected to the
u:!5e elf the name Sylvan Beach for the station wi thin the, said town
ot TAiL Porte, a.nd said Railway Company has largely at the instance
a:nd request of said ci ti,zens and of the City Council of said town,
c.hanE;ed the name of Sylvan Beach station to "TJa Porte Beach".
NOW THEREFORE: Be it ordained, by the City Council of the City
of' LEL Porte:- ' '
Sect&on One: That the action of the Galveston, Harrisburg
.nd ~)an Antonio Railway Company in changing the name of Sylvan
Beach station to La Porte Beach be, and the same hereby is accepted
an.d tn all things approved, and that the action of said Company in
continuing to maintain and operate said station of La Porte under it
its lJaid name be, and the sani'e hereby is accepted and in all things
,apprc)ved. '

Section Two: That the action of said; The Galveston, Harris-
burg and San Antonio Railway Comppny in operating said La Porte
stat:Lon for freight and passenger business as in the past, and its
actil!)n in mainta.ining and operating said. Sylvan Beach station (now
La PCJrte Beach statton) for limited and special passenger service
only, be, and t.t1e same hereby 1s accepted and in all things approved

On motion of Alderman Slusher, seconded by Alderman Reynolds,
a,n emergency was declared, and ,on motion by Alderman Brick, second~1
by Alderman Isensee, it was passed to the third ancr final reading,
e.nd stood approved.
