CITY SECRETARY, AND FIXING THE COMPENSATION OF SUCH OfFICER AND REPEALING ALL'
ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREVilTH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA. PORTE, TEXAS:
Seotion 1. That the offioe of Judge of the Corporation Court of the
City of La Porte is hereby abolished and the powers and duties prescribed for

such offioer are hereby conferred upon the Mayor of the City of La Porte and as
oompensation for suoh services the Mayor shall receive the same fees as by law
are provided for Justices of the Peaoe, whiohfees shall be taxed as costs against
eaoh Defendant convioted.
Seotion 2. That the oftice of Treasurer of the City ~f La Porte is
hereby ~bolished and said offioe shall be dispensed ~th at the expiration of
t~e ter.m of the inoumbent and the powers and duties prescribed for said offioe

are hereby conferred upon the Secretary of the City of La Porte, to be effeo-

tive after the present ter.m of office.

'" Sect:Lon 3. That the office of'the Tax Assessor and Colleotor of the
City of La Porte is hereby abolished and said offioe shall be'dispensed with at
the expiration of the ter.m of the incumbent and the powers and duties prescribed
'for said offioe are hereby conferred upon the Seoretary of the City of La Porte,
to be effeotive atter the present ter.m of office.
Seotion 4. That hereafter, beginning with the expiration of the
present term of offioe, the compensation of the Seoretary of the City of La Porte
is hereby fixed at the sum of On; Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars (#125.00), per month.
Section 5. Th~t all ordinanoes and parts of ordinanoes heretofore
passed which are in conflict herewith are hereby repealed by this ordinanoe.

Seotion 6. That if any seotion or part of a section, or one or more
seotions of this ordinanoe be deolared to be invalid'suoh shall not effect the
validity of the ~emaining parts hereof.

Section 7. That an emergenoy exists oonstituting an imperative pub-
lic necessity that the rule requiring ordinances to be read at three several
meetings be suspended and that this ordinanoe be passed finally on its second
