AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING FIRE LIMITS; REGULATING 13UIIJD-
J:NtJ CONSTRUCTION AND ALTERATIONS; PROVIDING FoB Pl~RMITS AND FEES;
AN)) PROVIDING THE FOLLOWING: ANY PERSON VIOLATING ANY OF THE PRO..
"IISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE DEEMED GUILTY of A MISDF1IlEANOR,
J.~ND UPON CONVICTION SHALL BE FINED IN ANY SUM NOT TO EXCEED $100.00
leACH DAY A VIOLATION IS PERMITTED TO CONTINUE SHALL CONSTITUTE A
SEPARATE OFFENSE, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY ,THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY

Section 1. The ,following shall be and are hereby de-
olared to be the fire limits of the ,City of La Porte, Texas:
'Beginn1ng at a point on the Oity Limit Line on
Tenth Street in the center of the alley of Block
11'46 of", the Town of La Porte;

Thence 1n an easterly direction along the center
of the alley to the center of South Third Street;
Thence south along the center of South Third Street
to a point in the center ot South A Street;
Thence 1n an easterly direction along the center of
South A Street to San Jacinto Avenue; across San Ja-
cinto Avenue in a direct line to the center of South
A street between blooks #198 and #201 of the Town of
La Porte; thence in an easterly direction along the
center of South A Street to a point in the center ot
South Seventh Avenue;
Thence north along the cent~r of South Seventh Avenue
to a point in the center of the alley in Luock #197
of the Town of La Porte;
Thence in an easterly direction along the c enterot
the alley to a point in the center of South Tenth
Avenue; thence in a northerly direct10n along the
oenter ot South Tenth Avenue aoross East Main street
and along the cente'r ot North Tenth Avenue to a p01nt
in the center ~f the alley through block #184 of the
Town of La porte;
Thenc~ in a westerly direction along the center ot
the alley to a point in the center of North Broadway
street; t~ence 1n a westerly direction to the center
ot the alley 1n block #60 of the Town of La Porte;
thence in a westerly direction along the center of
the alley to the 01 ty Limit Line on Tenth Street;
Thence in a southerly direction along the C1ty Limit
Line on Tenth stree t to the place of beginning.
Section 2. No wall, structure, building ar part thereof
shall hereafter be built, enlarged or" .al:~.~~e~ until a plan ot the
P]~oposed work together with a statement of the materials to be
w~ed shall have been submitted to the building inspector or des-
n1gated offioer ot the City of La Porte, Texas, who shall, if in
aocordance with provisions herein contained, issue a'permit for

the proposed oonstruction. Before such permIt is Iss~ed, the
b'u'ilder, hie representative or con.t~actor, shall be required to

furnish detailed information regarding the name of the owner, pro-
posed location, character of occupanoy, manner and kind of materla~,
plumbing, wiring, roofing, chimney and flue oonstruotion, manner
and kind of heat to be used, estimated nost of building, estimated
time for completion and the name of the contractor.
On securing this information, it shall be the duty of I
the building inspector or other authorized agent to issue a build- I

ing permit upon the payment of One Dollar ($1.00) by said owner I
~llch gives the builder the right to ereot said building and the
r:1ght to place the materials required for said construction upon
the streets and alleys adjaoent to the lot where said building is
tl) be erec~ed, provided that in no event shall such materials be
placed in any street or alley so that it will interfere with the
tl:,affic over or through said street or alley or endanger the pub-
110 in passing such building. All other applicable Ordinances
mlst be complied with. Permits are required on all buildings
el:,ected within the corporate limits of the City of La Porto, Texas,
w1th the exoeption of buildings where the total cost does not ex-
cc,ed $25.00. Structures hereafter erected without permit or not in
conformity with this Ordinance shall be removed.
The building inspector or other designated officer shall
bl~ required to keep a record of all building. permits issued in a
wE~ll-bound volume that shall be available for the inspection or th
public.
No building shall be moved from one location to another
within the City Limits of. La Porte, Texas, until a permit haa been
obtained therefor. A permit shall be issued only in case the con-
st;ruction is in aocordance with this Ordinance.
Section 3. Every building hereafter erected, altered or
eld$rged within the fire limits, shall be enclosed on all sides
with walls constructed wholly of stone, well burned brick, rein-
f()rced concrete, hollow tile, concrete blocks or ironclad on steel
frame.

Walls shall not be less than 12 inches in thickness ex-
cept that one-story buildings may have walls not less than 8 inche

roof structures of incombustible materials except that wood deck~ I

ing may be used. Two-story bUildings may have walls not less thanj

stucco or veneer type of construction, or any buildings whose wall

Seotion 4. No structure whose walls are wholly, or in

paI1t" construoted of wood, shall hereafter be built or moved into
the fire limits as herein designated or as they may hereafter be

established except as follows:
(a) Temporary one-story frame buildings for
the use of bUilders,
(b) Wooden ferices not over 8 feet hi~l with-
out cover or roof.
Any existing frame or ironclad building, with in the rir~
limits, which may hereafter'be damaged by fire, decay ~r otherwise,
tom amount greater than one-half of its present value exolusive
of 'the foundation shall not be repaired or rebuilt, but shall be
ren1lJved. Extension to or remodeling to change the type of con-

strl1o.tlon of existing buildings shall not be considered as repairs.

Seotion 5. Any person violating any of the provisions
of thts Ordinanoe shall be' deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and
upon (~onviction shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $100.00.
Each. day a violation is permitted to continue anall constitute a
sepe.rnte offense.
Section 6. Ordinance #344 passed by the Board of Oom-
miss:icmers on October 14, 1947, and all other Ordinance or parts
of Orclinance inconstitent or in conflict with the provisions of
this Clrdinance shall be and the same are hereby repealed.
