AN ORDINANCE ESTABLIS INGFIRE LIMITS; REGULATING BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION AND ALTERATIONS; PROVIDING FOR PERMITS AND FEES; AND
PROVIDING THE FOLLOWING: ANY PERSON VIOLATING ANY OF THE PROVI-
SIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHA BE DEEMED GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR
AND UPOH COINICTION SHALL BE B'INED IN ANY SUM NOT TO EXCEED $100.0 .
EACH DAY A VIOLATION IS PERM TTED TO CONTINUE SHALL CONSTITUTE A
SEPARATE OFFENSE, AND DECLA NG AN E)lERGENCY. '
BE 12 ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
LA PORTE, TmtAS, THAT:
Section 1. The fo110 ing shall be and are hereby declared
to be the fire limits of the ity of La Porte, Texas:
Beginning at a point n the City Limit line on Tenth

within the City Limits of La Porte, Texas, until a permit has
been obtained therefor. A permit shall be issued only in case

the construation is in accordance with this Ordinance.
Sect ion 3.
Every building hereafter erected, altered or

enlarged within the fire limits, shall be enclosed on all sides
with walls.oons~ructed wholly of stone, well burned brick, rein-
forced concrete, hollow tile, concrete blocks or ironclad on
steel fram'e~

Wallo shall not be less than 12 inches in thickness except-
ing that one-story buildings may have walls not less than 8 inches
in thickness, or ironclad walls on steel trames, and shall have th
roof structures ot incombustible materials except that wood deck-
ing may be used.' Two-story buildings may.have walls not less than
8 inches in thickness provided that they have adequate structural
strength approved by the building inspector of the CIty. All cor-
nices shall be ot incombustible materials. Joint and party walls
between two buildin~s shall not be less than 12 inches in thick-
ness. The purpose ot this section is to prohibit the erection,
within the fire limits, of any building or structure of wooden,
stucco or veneer type of construc~ion, or any buildings whose wall
contain wood supports.
Section 4. No structure whose walls are wholly, or in part,
constructed of wood, shall hereafter be built or moved into the
tire limits as herein designated or as they may hereafter be es-
tablished exoept as follows:
(a) Temporary one-story trame buildings for
the use of builders.
(b) Wooden tsnces not over 8 feet high with-
out cover or root.

Any ~tisting trame or ironcald building, within the fire
limits, which may hereafter be damaged by fire, decay or otherwise
to an amount greater than one-halt of its present value exclusive
of the foundation shall not be repair. or rebuilt, but shall be re
moved. Extension to or remodeling to change the type of construct
ion of existing buildings shall not be considered as repairs. Re-
pairs to existing wood Shingle roofs shall be limited to minor re-
pair, and where exceeding 50% of the value of the roof, shall be
replaced only with incombustible materials.

Section 5. Any person violating any of the provisions of
this Ordtnanoe shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction shall va fined in any sum not to exceed $100.00. Each
day a violation is permitted to continue shall constitute a sepa-
rate offenseo
Section 6. Ordinance 1349 passed by the Board of Commissio -
ers on November 28, 1947, and all other Ordinances or parts of
Ordinances inconstitent or in conn ict with the provisions of this

Ordinance shall be and the same are hereby repealed.
Section 7. The fact the best interest and general welfare
of the City ~equire that the regulations made herein be put into
effect, constitutes and creites an emergency and a public necessit
that the rule requiring Ordinances to be read at three several
meetings be suspended and that :tb-is Ordinance be passed finall,.
on its first reading; and that this Ordinance take effect and be
in force from and after its passage, approval and publication;
and it is so ordained.
