AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULiffi BIENNIAL ELECTION OF CITY OFFICII\LS PURSUANT
TO ARTICLE II, SECTIONS 12 et seq, AND ARTICLE VIII, SECTIONS 83, et seq, OF
TH.~ HOO RULE CH1,RTER FOR THE CITY OF L\ PORTE, TEXAS: PROVIDING FOR ~!OTICE
OF SAID ELECTION AND THE RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE SAME: NOT COVtJiED
IN SAID CHARTER.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA. PORTE:

SECTION ClIJE: l'hat an election be held within the corporate limits of the City
of La .Porte, Texas, on the 25th day of April, 1950; such day being the fourth
Tuesday in said co nth, between the hours of Seven (1 :00) 0 I clock A.Al. and
Seven (1:00) o'c:"ock P.M., for the purpose of electing officials for said city,
as follOVJs:
A Mayor, and
Two (2) Commissioners
SECTION 'NIO: There shall be but one polling place, which shall be the City
Hall, located within the corporate limits of the City of La Porte, Texas;
SECTION TImEE: Mrs.Hallie Wright, is hereby appointed presiding officer of
said election, Nt's 0 Leo Gaber and I!rs. Arbela Ralston, Assistant Judges thereof.
SECTIon FOUR: Every person who has attained the age of twenty-one (21) :rears
and has resided "Nithin the limits of said City of La Porte, Texas, for six (6)
It months next preceding the election, and is othenlise qua1if;i.ed as a voter under
the laws of this state, shall be entitled to vote in the election,;
SECTION FIVE: On each official ballot the voter must write, or cause to be
written, or printed thereon, the name of: the individual for "Whom he desires to
wote for the. office of 1Iayor, a:td the names of the individuals, respectively,
for whom he desires to vote, as Commissioner;
SECTION SIX: Promptly after the said election, the officials holding the elcc-
tion shall make due return thereof to the City COJ:l1'llission of the City of La.

Porte, Texas, certifying to said Commission the name of the CandiCate r~ceiving
the highest numuer of votes for the office of lla~rol', and the names of the two
Candidates receiving the highest number of votes for Commissioners,; and the
IJayor of the City of La Porte will immediately thereafter cormnission the Candidate

liver certificate3 of election to the other officers elected; and such elected
officials shall a3sume duties within ten (10) days thereafter, Sundays excluded.
SECTION SEVENt Notice of said election shall be given by publication in the
La Porte "Liberal"' not less than thirty (30) days prior to the date thereof of

virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby order that

that said election shall be held at the City Hall in said City,

SECTION EIGHT: Said el.ection shall be held in accordance with the provisions of

Election Laws (as amended) of the State of Texas,; such laws of the State of Texas
being applicabla on~ where necessary rules and regula.tions governing the conduct

the City Clerk of the City of La Porte, Texas, shall furnish to any prospective
Candidate all information relative to the qualifications for the office being

sought,; the method of placing the Candidates name on the ballot,; the amount of
the required filing fee; and any other pertinent information contained in the
Charter of said City.
SECTION TEN: Tha:t the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to give
notice of said el,action, in accordance with Section Seven hereof" and to receive

the affidavit of :9Ublication of this ordinance from said ne\vspaper publisher.
SECTIon ELEVEN: If any Section, or any part of this Ordinance shall be held to
be invalid; such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions thereof, and
any irregular pro::eedings in the conduct of said election, beginni,ng with the
passage of this Ordinance and ending l1ith the final canvass of votes and certi-
fication of officars, shall not void said election, unless the fair results
thereof might be changed by sucl?- irregularity, and to such an extent that the
officers elected therebw would not have been elected;it beine the express inten-
tion of the City Commission to enact thi~ Ordinance ~nthout respect to such
Section, or sections, held to be invalid and to effectuate such election without
respect to any such irregularities in the conduct of said election proceedings.
