AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULAR :BIENNIAL ELECTION OF CITY OFFICIALS PURSUANT
TCi ARTICLE II, SECTIONS 12 et seq, AND ARTICLJ: NINE:, SECTIONS 83, et seq, OF
THE HOME RULE CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF IA PORTE, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE
OF' SAID ELECTION AND THE RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE SAME NOT COVERED
IN SAID CHARTER.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF T HE CITY OF IA PORTE:
SECTION ONE: 'l'hat an election be held within the corporate limits of the City
of :La Porte, Texas, on the 27th day of April, 1954; such day being the fourth
Tuesday in said month, between the hours of seven (1 :00) 0' clock A. M. and
seven (1:00) o'olook p. M., for the purpose of electing offioials for said Ci~,

Two (2) Commissioners
SECTION TWO:
There shall be but one polling plaoe, whioh shall be the City
Hall, looated within the oorporate limits of the City of La ~ orte, Texas;
SECTION THREE:
Mrs. Arbela Ralston
is hereby appointed presiding
offioer of said eleotion, Mrs. Lois Compton
an.! Mrs. Otis Harrison
Assistant Judges thereof.

Frank Baker and Ali~e Stabs,
SECTION FOUR: Every person who has attained the age of twenty-one (21) years
ani has resided within the limits of said City of La Porte, Texas, for six (6)

m~nths next preceding the eleotion, and is otherwise qualified as a voter under
thiS laws of this State, shall be entitled to vote in the eleotion;
SEJTION FIVE: On eaoh official ballot the voter must write, or cause to be
written, or printed thereon, the name of the individual for whom he desires to
vo'be for the office of Mayor, and the names of the individuals, respectively,
fOl:- whom he desires to vote, as Commissioner.
SEGTION SIX: Promptly after the said election, the offioials holding the elec-
ti,:>n shall make due return thereof to the City Commission of the City of La
Pa:-te, Texas, certifying to said Commission the name of the Candidate receiving
___. th'3 highest number of votes for the office of Mayor, and the names of the two
1,_: Calldidates receiving the highest number of votes for Commissioners, and the
Ma;,or of the City of La Porte will immediately thereafter commission the Candidate

virtue of the power v..ested in me by law, do hereby order that
an eleotion be held in the City of La Porte, Texas, on Apr.1l
27th, 1954, being the fourlih Tuesday thereof, for the purpose
of eleoting the following offioers of said City:
Mayor and
Two (2) Commissioners:
that said eleotion shall be held at the City Hall in said City,
and the following :eamed persons are hereby appointed judges
thereof, to-wit:

SEGTION EIGHT: Said election shall be held in aooordanoe with the provisions of
sa:ld Charter; the provisions of this Ordinanoe; and the provisions of the General
ElElotion Laws (as amen,ded) of 1: he State of Texas; such laws of the ::itate of Texas
be:mg applicable only where neoessary rules and regulations governing the oonduot
of suoh eleotions are not provided for either by said Charter, or this Ordinanoe
inoonsistent with suoh laws of the State of Texas;
SEC:TION NINE: Upon a Candidate tendering his applioation on the form presoribed,
thE! City Clerk of the City of La Porte, Texas, shall furnish to 8IlY prospeotive
Candidate all information relative to the qualifications for the offioe being

sClught; the method of placing the Candidates name on the ballot; the amount of
the required filing fee; and any other pertinent information contained in the
Charter of' said City.

SI~TION TEN: That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to give
notice of said election, in accordance with Seotion Seven hereof, and to receive
tl:,e affidavit of publication of' this ordinance fram said newspaper publisher.
SE:CTION ELEVEN: If any Section, or any part of this Ordinanoe shall be' held to
be invalid; suoh invalidity shall not affeot the remaining portions thereof, and
any irregular proceedings in the oonduot of said election, beginning with the
passage of this Ordinanoe and ending with the final oanvass of votes and oerti-
fication of offioers, shall not void said eloction, unless the fair results
thereof might be ohanged by such irregularity, and to such an extent that the

of~ioers elected thereby vrould not have been elected; it being the express inten-
tion of the City Commission to enact this Ordinance without respect to suoh
Section, or sections, held to be invalid and to effectuate such election without
respect to any irregularities in the conduot of said election proceedings.
SECTION TWELVE: The filing fee for each Candidate shall be as follows:
