ORDINANCE N0. 530
AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULAR BIENNIAL ELECTION OF THE CITY OFFICIALS OF THE
CITY OF LA PORT E, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR POLLING PLACE; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFI-
CIALS; PROVIDING FOR RETURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING
FOR NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING FEES FOR CANDIDATES; AND SAVING CLAUSE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORT E, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 1. An election be held within the corporate limits of the

City of La Porte, Texas, on the 22nd day of April, A. D. 1958; such day being
the fourth Tuesday in April, between seven o'clock (7:00) A. ~4. and seven o'cloc!
(7:00) P. M., for the purpose of electing a Mayor and two (2) Commissioners of 1

said City.
Section 2. There shall be but one (1) polling place, which shall be

the City Hall, located within the corporate limits of the City of La Porte,
Texas.
Section 3. Mrs. H. M. Ralston
is hereby appointed
Judge of said election, Mrs. Otis Harrison and
are hereby appointed Assistant Judges
of said election, and Mrs. Calvin Compton
Mrs. J. M. Higgins and
Mrs. Rex Baker
are hereby appointed Clerks of said election.
Section 4. Immediately after the close of the polls on the 22nd day
of April, A. D. 1958, the election officials shall make due return thereof to
;the City Commission and the City Commission shall canvass the returns on the
I,Monday next following the 22nd day of April, A. D. 1958, or sooner, provided tha
din the event of a failure, from any cause, of the Commission to convene on the
(said Monday then the Commission shall be convened for that purpose upon the
earliest day practicable thereafter, and shall immediately after canvassing the
returns declare the results of the election and the Mayor shall immediately
thereafter deliver to the candidates for whom the greatest number of votes have
been polled for the office of Mayor and for the offices of Commissioner a cer-
tificate of election, and such elected officials shall assume their duties with--
in ten (10) days thereafter, Sundays excluded.

Section 5. Notice of said election shall be given by publication in
the La Porte Liberal, not less than thirty (30) days prior to the date of the
.aid election, of the following notice:
"NOTICE OF ELECTION

I, H. P. Pfeiffer, Mayor Pro-tem. of the City of La Porte,
Texas, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby
order that an election be held in the said City of La Porte,
Texas, on the 22nd day of April, A. O, 1958, for the purpose
of electing a Mayor and two (2) Commissioners of said City, and
that said election shall be held at the City Hall in said City
between seven o'clock ("7:00) A. M. and seven o'clock (7:00)
P. M. on said date, and the following named persons are the
appointed officials of said election, to-wit:
Judge Mrs. H. Pd. Ralston
Assistant JudyeMrs. Otis Harrison
Assistant Judge
Clerk Mrs. Calvin Compton
Clerk Mrs. J. M. Higgins
Clerk Mrs. Rex Baker

hand further notice of said election shall be given by posting a copy of this or-
~dinance at the City Hall for thirty (30) days next preceding said election.
Section 6. Upon a candidate tendering his apblication on the form
prescribed, the City Clerk shall furnish to such candidate all information rel-
ative to the qualifications for the office being sought; the method of placing
the candidate's name on the ballot; the amount of the required filing fee; and
!any other pertinent information concerning said election.
Section 7. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to give
'notice of said election in accordance with Section 5 hereof.
Section 8. The filing fee for each candidate shall be as follows:

, Section 9, Each and every provision, paragraph, sentence and clause

of this ordinance has been separately considered and passed by the City Commis-
sion of the City of La Porte, Texas, and each said provision would have been
,separately passed without any other provision, and if any provision hereof shall
be ineffective, invalid or unconstitutional, for any cause, it shall not impair
' or affect the remaining portion, or any part thereof, but the valid portion
shall be in force just as if it had been passed alone. a
