HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-1958-554~ • ORDINANCE N0. ~^~ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 3, DEFINING PARKING t1iETER ZONE, SECTION 5, PRE- SCRIBING LENGTH OF TIME AND RATES CHARGED FOR PARKING, AND SECTION 22, PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING THE PROVISIONS OF THE ORDINANCE SHALL BE FINED IN ANY SUM NOT LESS THAN FIFTY CENTS (50¢) NOR MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100.lC), ;AND REPEALING SECTION '~, PROVIDING FOR DEPOSIT OF COINS IN PARKING METERS, OF 3 iORDINANCE N0. 519 OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, PASSED ON THE 19TH DAY OF JULY, A. D. ': 1957 . BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: f Section 1. Section 3 of Ordinance No. 519 of the City of La Porte, passed and approved on the 19th day of July, A. D. 1957, is hereby amended to read, and shall hereafter read, as follows: PARKING METER ZONE DEFINED. The following described parts of streets in the City of La Porte, Texas, are hereby established as "Parking lieter Zane", 1 to wit: That part of l9est h~iain Street which lies between Broadway Street and Fourth Street and that part of South Fourtl4.Street which lies between best Main Street and West "A" Street. Section 2. Section 5 of Ordinance No. 519 of the City of La Porte, passed and approved on the 19th day of July, A. D. 1957, is hereby amended to ', read, and shall hereafter read, as follows: LENGTH OF TIME AND RATES CHARGED FOR PARKING AND DEPOSIT OF COINS. `;When any vehicle shall be parked in any space adjacent to which a parking meter is located, in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance, the operator of said vehicle shall, upon entering the said parking space, immediately deposit, or cause to be deposited, a one (1) or five (5) cent coin of the United States, `~ in such parking meter, and put such meter in operation, and failure to deposit i~ such coin and put the meter in operation shall constitute a violation of this i0rdinance and shall subject such person to the penalty prescribed hereinafter. !;Upan placing such meter in operation as aforesaid the parking space may be law- fully occupied by such vehicle for a period of twelve (12) consecutive minutes ',for each one cent. (1~) coin of the United States deposited therein up to one hundred twenty (120) minutes, or for a period of sixty (6G) consecutive minutes '.':for each five cent. (5~) cain of the United States deposited therein up to one hundred twenty (120) minutes, and payment of the aforesaid amounts for the above' `.:.periods shall be made for parking in the areas set forth hereinabove. If any such vehicle shall remain parked in any such parking space beyond the parking time limit as fixed by the coin or coins deposited in such meter for such parking;,. spece, the parking meter shall, by its dial and pointer, indicate such illegal ;parking and in that event such vehicle shall be considered parked overtime and • ~ -2- • beyond the period of legal parking time and shall constitute a violation of this Ordinance and the owner or operator thereof shall be punished as hereinafter set out. • Section 3. Section 22 of Ordinance N~. 519 of the City of La Porte, passed and approved on the 19th day of July, A. D. 1957, is hereby amended to read, and shall hereafter read, as follows: PENALTY FOR VIOLATION. Any person who shall violate any of the pro- visions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of an offense and upon conviction shall be fined in any sum not less than fifty cents (50~) nor more than One Hundred Dollars ($IOG.uD). Section ~. Section 7 of Ordinance No. 519 of the City of La Porte, passed and approved on the 19th day of July, A. D. 1951, is hereby expressly repealed and shall be of no further force and effect. Section 5. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval and publication as required by law. Passed and approved this the c~ day of o~ _ t ~ ~ A.
