ORDINANCE CALLING BOND ELECTION
THE STATE OF TEXAS §
COUNTY OF HARRIS §
The City Commission of the City of La Porte, Texas, met in
,E ~ ,q~-L session at the regular meeting place within said City
on the ~~ay of ~v L , 1958, with the following members
present, to-wit:

when the following business was transacted:
The Mayor introduced an ordinance calling a bond election. The
ordinance was read in full and Commissioner ~5~,,,Z,~" moved
that it be adopted. The motion was seconded by Commissioner L,,yw~,F.~
~~.~~Le~ and carried by the following vote : AYES : Mayor Pfeiffer,
Commissioners Lawler, Brown, Osburn and Boyle. NOES: None. The
ordinance thus adopted follows:
• BE IT ORDAINED by the City Commission of the City of La Porte:
Section l: That an election shall be held in and throughout the City
of LaPorte, Texas, on the ~_ day of ~ ~ s 7L , 1959, at which
election the following propositions shall be submitted to the duly
qualified resident electors of said City who own taxable property
within said City and who have duly rendered the same for taxation,

PROPOSITION N0. ONE
SHALL THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, BE AUTHOR-
IZED TO ISSUE THE BONDS OF SAID CITY IN THE AMOUNT OF $45,000, MATUR-
ING SERIALLY WITHIN THIRTY (30) YEARS FROM THEIR DATE OR DATES, AND
BEARING INTEREST AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED FI'JE (5/) PER CENT PER ANNUM,
FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A CAPITAL PROJECT, TO-WIT: CONSTRUCTING AND
E QUIPPING A FIRE STATION WITHIN AND FOR SAID CITY, AND TO LEVY TAXES
ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY 1r~ITHIN SAID CITY SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE ANNUAL
INTEREST ON SAID BONDS AND TO PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO PAY THE.PRIN-

SHALL THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, BE AUTHOR
IZED TO ISSUE THE BONDS OF SAID CITY IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,000, MATUR-
ING SERIALLY WITHIN THIRTY (30) YEARS FROM THEIR DATE OR DATES, AND
BEARING INTEREST AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED FIVE (5~) PER CENT PER ANNUM,
FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A CAPITAL PROJECT, TO-WIT: CONSTRUCTING IM-
PROVEMENTS AND REPAIRS TO THE CITY HALL WITHIN SAID CITY, AND TO LEVY
TAXES ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN SAID CITY SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE
ANNUAL INTEREST ON SAID BONDS AND TO PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO PAY

URING SERIALLY WITHIN THIRTY (30) YEARS FROM THEIR DATE OR DATES, AND
BEARING INTEREST AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED FIVE (5f) PER CENT PER ANNUM,
FOR THE ACQUISIT ION OF A CAPITAL PROJECT, TO-WIT: CONSTRUCTING AND
IMPROVING THE ROADS, BRIDGES AND STREETS OF SAID CITY, AND TO LEVY
TAXES ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN SAID CITY,SI7FFICIENT TO PAY THE
ANNUAL INTEREST ON SAID BONDS AND TO PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO PAY
THE PRINCIPAL THEREOF AT MATURITY?
PROPOSITION NO. FOUR
SHALL THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, BE AUTHOR-
IZED TO ISSUE THE BONDS OF SAID CITY IN THE AMOUNT OF, $60,000, MATUR-
ING SERIALLY WITHIN THIRTY (30) YEARS FROM THEIR DATE OR DATES, AND
• BEARING INTEREST AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED FIVE (51) PER CENT PER ANNUM,
FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A CAPITAL PROJECT, TO-WIT: PURCHASING ANDIOR
IMPROVING LANDS FOR PARK PURPOSES, AND TO LEVY TAXES ON ALL TAXABLE
PROPERTY WITHIN SAID CITY SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE ANNUAL INTEREST ON
SAID BONDS AND TO PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL THERE-
OF AT MATURITY?
PROPOSITION N0. FIVE
SHALL THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, BE AUTHOR-
IZED TO ISSUE THE BONDS OF SAID CITY IN THE AMOUNT OF $75,000, MATUR-
ING SERIALLY WITHIN THIRTY (30) YEARS FROM THEIR DATE OR DATES, AND
BEARING INTEREST AT A RATE NOT TO EXCEED FIVE (5/) PER CENT PER ANNUM,
FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A CAPITAL PROJECT, TO-WIT: CONSTRUCTING IM-
PROVEMENTS AND EXTENSIONS TO THE CITY'S WATERWORKS SYSTEM, AND TO LEVY
TAXES ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN SAID CITY SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE
ANNUAL INTEREST ON SAID BONDS AND TO PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO PAY THE
PRINCIPAL THEREOF AT MATURITY?

Section 2: That the City Commission finds that the probable period.

of usefulness of each of said capital projects described respectively
in said foregoing propositions is approximately thirty (30) years.
Section 3: That said election shall be held in the City Hall Build-
ing, in the City of La Porte, Texas, and the entire City shall consti-
tute one election precinct. The following named persons are hereby
appointed officers of said election:

Mrs. Calvin Compton
Presiding Judge
Assistant Judge
Clerk
Mrs. Rex Baker
Clerk
Section 4: That said election shall be held in accordance with the
provisions of the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas and
the City Charter and only duly qualified resident electors of the
City of La Porte, Texas, who own taxable property within said City
and who have duly rendered the same for taxation, shall be qualified
to vote.
Section 5: That the ballots of said election shall conform to the
requirements of Chapter 6 of the Election Code of the State of Texas,
Chapter 4g2, Acts of the 52nd Legislature of Texas, 1951, as amended,
so far as applicable, and, in addition to the requirements of Chapter
6 shall have printed thereon the following:

Voting on said propositions shall be by voting machine, and each voter
desiring to vote in favor of such proposition shall pull the voting
pointer down indicating "For" such proposition, and each voter desir-
ing to vote against such proposition shall pull the voting pointer
down indicating "Against" such proposition.
As to absentee voting, however, paper ballots shall be used, and
absentee votes shall be cast at the Office of the City Clerk at the
City Hall within said City. Said paper ballots shall have printed
thereon the following:

The absentee voter shall vote on the propositions by scratching or
mar. king out the expression that he does not wish to vote for, thus
lea~,ring the one not so scratched or marked out as indicating his vote
on each proposition, in accordance with said Election Code, as amended.
Section 6: That notice of said election shall be given by posting
a copy of a notice containing a substantial copy of this ordinance
at the City Hall and at two other public places within said City not
less than fourteen (1~-) days prior to the date upon which said election
is to be held, and. by publication. of said notice in THE LA PORTE
LIBERAL on the same day ir. each of two (2) successive weeks, the first
of said publications to be made not later than fourteen (14) days prior
to the date set for said election. It is hereby found and declared
that THE LA PORTE LIBERAL is a newspaper. published in, ar~d of general
circulation within, the City of La Porte, and is the official news-
paper of said City.
