AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING ANY PERSON, ASSOCIATION OR CORPORA-
TIoN MAKING OR CAUSING TO BE MADE ANY IMPROVEMENT OR BillLD-
ING OR CERTAIN ALTERATIONS OR REPAIRS OF CERTAIN IMPROVE-
MENTS OR BUILDINGS WlTIDN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF
LA PORTE TO FIRST ACQUIRE A BUILDING PERMIT FROM THE CITY OF
LA PORTE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY OF NOT MORE THAN $200. 00
FOR EACH DAY ANY PERSON IS IN VIOLATION OF THE TERMS AND PRO-
VISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COl\1MISSION OF THE CITY OF
LA PORTE:
1. Any person, association or corporation desiring to make any
improvement or builqing or certain alterations or repairs of any improve-

ment or building within the city limits of the City of La Porte shall make
application to the City Clerk of the City of La Porte for a building permit,
such application for building permit shall be accompanied by a plot plan
and plans and specifications and the City Clerk is hereby directed to refuse
to accept any application that does not have such plot plan and plans and
specifications accompanying such application. Buildings that will require
a permit are carports, garages, accessory buildings, porches, or closing
in of porches, garages or additions made. to any building where any square
footage is added. Maintenance or general repair remodeling to an existing
building such as painting, repair or replacing a roof, replacing rotten sills,
porch floors, steps, windows or replacing broken window panes do not re-
quire a permit.
2. Any person who shall make, or cause to be made, any improve-
ment or building or any alteration or repair of any improvement or building
without first having obtained a building permit shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor and shall be fined in an amount not to exceed the sum of
$200. 00 and each day that such improvement or building or alteration or re-
pair of any improvement or building shall continue to exist without a building
permit from the City of La Porte shall constitute a violation separate and

3. This ordinance shall become effective on and after the eleventh
(lIth) day after the first publication of the caption of this ordinance in the
