AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING THE RATES, FEES AND CHARGES FOR WATER AND WATER SERVICE BY THE CITY TO CONSUMERS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS; PRESCRIBING THE TIME FOR PAYMENT THEREOF; PROVIDING FOR TEN PER CENT. (10%) DISCOUNT FOR PROMPT PAYMENT OF BILL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. Hereafter, each and every consumer, except multi- pIe dwelling unit consumers as hereinafter defined, inside and outside the corporate limits of the City, shall pay to the City their respective water bills for water consumption at the following rates, to-wit: For water consumed during any month, the rates shall be: One Dollar ($1. 00) per One Thousand (1,000) gallons for the first Two Thousand (2,000) gallons of water; Seventy- Five Cents (75s[) per One Thousand (1,000) gallons in excess of Two Thousand (2,000) gallons and less than Five Thousand (5,000) gallons of water; Fifty Cents (50s[) per One Thousand (1,000) gallons in ex- cess of Five Thousand (5,000) gallons and less than Ten Thousand (10,000) gallons of water; Forty Cents (40s[) per One Thousand (1,000) gallons in excess of Ten Thousand (10,000) gallons and less than Fifty Thousand (50,000) gallons of water; Thirty Cents (80s[) per One Thousand (1,000) gallons in excess of Fifty Thousand (50, 000) gallons of water. The sum of Two Dollars ($2. 00) shall be the monthly minimum charge for water consumption for each and every consumer inside the City limits; the sum of Two and 50/100 Dollars ($2.50) shall be the monthly mini- mum for each consumer outside the City limits. On all monthly bills paid .J by the Consumer on or before the 10th day of the calendar month succeeding that for which the bill is rendered, the City shall allow a discount in the sum of ten per cent. (10%). All bills paid after the 10th day of the calendar month succeeding that for which such bill is rendered shall not be subject to such discount. Section 2. For the purpose of this ordinance multiple unit dwellings shall be defined as apartment projects and other such installations having three or more rental dwelling units not available to transient renters. ------ .... . . /----. . ~ . It . .. . . ORDINANCE NO. b1 t., - 2 - Section 3. Owners of multiple dwelling units as defined in Paragraph Two may choose to have a single meter for the purpose of supply- ing water to all units. In the event such owner so chooses, owner shall pay the additional cost necessary for the larger meter if one is required. The size of the meter shall be established by the City Engineer. The following water rates shall apply to such single meter installations at multiple dwell- ing units: I., .... - : f. ,. Two Dollars ($2.00) shall be charged for'Two Thousand (2,000) gallons for each unit rented during the month for so much as a single day; Seventy- Five Cents (75~) shall be charged for each One Thousand (1, 000) gallons used over and above the mini- mum up to Three Thousand (3,000) gallons above the minimum; Fifty Cents (50~) shall be charged for each additional One Thousand (1, 000) gallons used up to and including an additional Five Thousand (5,000) gallons; Forty Cents (40~) shall be charged for each additional One Thousand (1,000) gallons used up to and including an additional Forty Thousand (40,000) gallons; Thirty Cents (30~) shall be charged for each additional One Thousand (1, 000) gallons used. Any such owner so choosing this method of water metering shall be charged with a sewer bill of thirty per cent (30%) of the total water bill in addition to the water charges. In addition the City shall charge One Dollar {~~. 001 for garbag~ ~rvic~ and bill the owner on the monthly water bill. Each rental unit rented for so much as one day during the month shall be the basis for an additional One Dollar ($1. 00) garbage service charge. The City shall make such charges set out above on the basis of one hundred per cent occupancy unless the owner ~akes affidavit on or before the second day of each calendar month setting forth the maximum number of units rented on anyone day during the preceding month and delivers said affidavit to the City Clerk of the City of La Porte. ORDINANCE NO. 61b - 3 - flict herewith are expressly repealed to the extent of such conflict only. Section 5. In the event any section, clause, sentence, or paragraph, or part of this ordinance shall, for any reason be adjudged by any court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect, impair or invalidate the remainder of this ordinance. Section 6. This ordinance shall become effective and in full force upon its passage and approval, and the rates herein prescribed shall be in effect and charged on the water bills issued for the month of June, 1962.
