H. EXCEPT ON THOSE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS ESPECIALLY ZONED AND SIGNED FOR OTHER SPEEDS, RESERVING AND PRESERVING ALL POWER AND EFFECT OF ORDINANCES ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS ON MAIN STREET, BROAD- WA Y, "J" STREET, 8TH STREET, AND NORTH 10TH STREET, AND RE- PEALING ALL OTHER ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVID- ING THAT THE EFFECTIVE DATE SHALL BE 10 DAYS AFTER THE FIRST PUBLICATION OF THE CAPTION OF TmS ORDINANCE; AND PRO- VIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING ANY OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE DEEMED GUlL TY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND UPON CONVICTION THEREOF SHALL BE FINED IN ANY SUM NOT MORE THAN $200. 00. WHEREAS, the City of La Porte, heretofore, has established the speed of 20 miles per hour as being the maximum reasonable and pru- _ dent safe speed within the city limits of La Porte, except in and on certain streets and highways; and, WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of La Porte has determined that an overall speed limit of 30 miles per hour would be a more reasonable limit of speed over all the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: 1. The reasonable safe maximum speed within the city limits of La Porte shall be henceforth a maximum of 30 miles per hour for . any vehicle. 2. All ordinances in conflict with this ordinance, or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance, are hereby repealed and shall have no further force and effect except those ordinances establishing speed limits on Broadway, "}" Street, 8th Street, Main Street, and North 10th Street. 3. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordi- nance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction there- of shall be fined in a sum not more than $200. 00. ...-. ,...... . e - It ~ . . Brown Commissioner Dennis Dunham Commissioner Clovis Mann City Clerk and the following member(s) absent} to-wit: None } when} among other business had} the following was transacted: The Mayor introduced an ordinance which was read in full. Commissioner Brown made a motion that the ordi- - nance be adopted as read. Commissioner Osburn seconded the motion for adoption of the ordinance. The motion} carrying with it the adoption of the ordinance} prevailed by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Stabs} Osburn} Brown} Dunham} and Mayor Pfeiffer NOES: None. The Mayor thereupon announced that the motion had duly and lawfully carried} and that the ordinance had been duly and 4It lawfully adopted. The ordinance thus adopted follows:
