I ORDINANCE NO. 6 t L; 1/ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECfIONS 39 and 40 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 664. WHEREAS, on the 18th day of January, 1963, the City Commission of the City of La Porte adopted Ordinance Number 664, popularly known as "La Porte Electrical Code,j. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of La Porte has deter- :q1ined that Sections 39 and 40 of said Ordinance Number 664 are not satis- factory and that they should be amended; WHEREAS, Sections 39 and 40 of Ordinance Number 664 as adopted on the 18th day of January, 1963, contain the following words: Section 39. THE ELECTRIC PUBLIC SERVICE CONIPANY shall never require the placing of meters on the front of the building or .street side of a building, without written consent of the owners, and where riot practical in the opinion of the Chief Electrical In- spector ~o place metering devices on the exterior of the building, said location shall be at a point, or points, convenient to the electric public service company's service as determined by the Chief ~lectrical Inspector. ..1 Section 40. THE POINT OF ATTACHMENT OF SERVICE DROP CONDUCfORS shall be at the highest practical point but in no instance less than ten (10) feet or more than twenty-five (25) feet above mean ground level unless a greater height is necessary to obtain the required clearance; except on buildings not high enough to permit a point of attachment of at least ten (10) feet above mean ground level, the point of attachment shall be as high as possible but no less than eight (8) feet above mean ground level with no exposed conductors within eight and one-half (8 1/2) feet and the point of service drop attachment shall in general be six (6) inches below the service head. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMlSSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, THAT: Sections 39 and 40 of Ordinance Number 664 are hereby amended and shall contain the following words: Section 39. THE ELECTRIC PUBLIC SERVICE CONIPANY shall not , , ~ require the placing of meters on the front of the building or street side of the building without the written consent of the owners, and where not practical to place metering devices on the exterior of the building, said location shall be at a point, or points, convenient to the electric public service company's service as determined by the company's engineer. ... ,.'~ .. II '--. '..,.;:.. ~ ~--...... ,or " e ~ -. '\ . ... -- ORDINANCE NO. 664-A Page 2 0 f 2 e Section 40-A. CLEARANCE OF SERVICE DROPS. (1) Clearance from Ground. Conductors shall have a clearance of not less than 10 feet from the ground or from any platform or projection from which they might be reached. (2) Point of Attachment to Building. The point of attach- ment of a service drop to a building shall be not les s than ' 10 feet above finished grade and shall be at a height to per- mit a minimum clearance for service drop conductors of 10 feet above sidewalks and 18 feet above driveways, alleys and public roads. The attachment should not be more than 30 feet above ground unless a greater height is necessary for proper clearance. Where it is impractical to get the point of attachment high enough to obtain the above clearances, the clearance over residential driveways may be reduced, pro- vided a clearance of 10 feet over sidewalks, 18 feet over alleys and public roads, and a minimum of 12 feet over resi- dential driveways is obtained. Section 40-B. CLEARANCE FROM GROUND.' Open con- ductors of not over 600 volts shall conform to the following: (1) Over Driveways. Conductors above alleys and above driveways on other than residential property shall have a clearance above ground of not less than 18 feet. (2) Over Lots. Conductors supplying lights in automo- bile parking lots, drive-in establishments, and similar commercial areas shall have clearances above ground of not less than 12 feet. (3) Over Footwalks, etc. On residential propertYI and elsewhere across spaces accessible to pedestrians onlYI conductors between buildings shall have a clearance of not less than 10 feet. Any wordsl phrases and paragraphs heretofore published that conflict with the terms of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon passage and approval by the City Commission of the City of La Porte. PASSED AND APPROVED this the I fa day of , ~Mf 1963.
