AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULAR ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE
CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR A POLLING PLACE;
APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR RETURN AND
CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE;
PROVIDING FOR FILING FEES FOR CANDIDATES; AND PROVIDING A
SA VINGS CLAUSE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CO:NlNJlSSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE,
TEXAS, THAT:
Section 1. An election shall be held within the corporate limits

of the City of La Porte, Texas, on the 23rd day of April, 1963; such day
being the fourth Tuesday in April, between seven o'clock (7:00) A. M. and
seven o'clock (7:00) P. M., for the purpose of electing a Commissioner of
said City for Position Number 1 and a Commissioner of said City for Position
Number 3.
Section 2. There shall be but one (1) polling place, which shall
be the City Hall, located within the corporate limits of the City of La Porte,
Texas.
Section 3. Mrs. H. M. Ralston
is hereby
appointed Judge of said election,
Mrs. Otis Harrison
and
are hereby appointed Assistant
Judges of said election, and.
Mrs. Rex J. Baker

and
Mrs. Calvin Compton
are hereby appointed Clerks of said election.
Section 4. Immediately after the close of the polls on the 23rd
day of April, 1963, the election officials shall make due return thereof to
the City Commission and the City Commission shall canvass the returns on
the Monday next following the 23rd day of April, 1963, or sooner, provided
that in the event of a failure, from any cause, of the Commission to convene
on the said Monday then the Commission shall be convened for that purpose
upon the earliest day' practicable thereafter, and shall immediately after
. canvassing the retur~s declare the results of the election and the Mayor

shall immediately thereafter delivery to the candidate for whom the greatest
. number of votes have been polled for the office of Commission Position Number
I, a certificate of election and the Mayor shall immediately thereafter deliver
to the candidate for the office of Commissioner, Position Number 3, a certi-
ficate of election, and such elected officials shall assume their duties within
ten (10) days thereafter, Sundays excluded.
Section 5. Notice of said election shall be given by publication
in the La Porte Bayshore Sun, not less than thirty (30) days prior to the
date of the said election, of the following notice:

I, H. P. Pfeiffer, Mayor of the City of La Porte, Texas,
by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby
order that an election be held in the said City of La Porte,
Texas, on the 23rd day of April, 1963, for the purpose of
electing two (2) Commissioners of said City, and that
said election shall be held at the City Hall in said City
between seven o'clock A. M. and seven o'clock P. M. on
said date, and the following named persons are the
appointed officials of said election, to-wit:

Assistant Judge Mrs. Ot is Harrison
Assistant Judge
Clerk
Mrs. Rex J. Baker

H. P. Pfeiffer, Mayor of the City of
La Porte, Texas
and further notice of said election shall be given by posting a copy of this
ordinance at the City Hall for thirty (30) days next preceding said election.
Section 6. Upon a candidate tendering his application on the form
prescribed, the City Clerk shall furnish to such candidate all information
relative to the qualifications for the office being sought; the method of placing
the candidate's name on the ballot; the amount of the required filing fee; and

any other pertinent information concerning said election.
Section 7. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
give notice of said election in accordance with Section 5 hereof.

Section 8. The filing fee for each candidate shall be $50.00.
Section 9. Each and every provision, paragraph, sentence and
clause of this ordinance has been separately considered and passed by the
City Commission of the City of La Porte, Texas, and each said provision
would have been separately passed without any other provision, and if any
provision hereof shall be ineffective, invalid or unconstitutional, for any
cause, it shall not impair or affect the remaining portion, or any part thereof,
but the valid portion shall be in force just as if it has been passed alone.
