ORDINANCE NO. 692 AN ORDINANCE VACATING," ABANDONING AND CLOSING THAT PORTION OF "A" STREET LYING BETWEEN EIGHTEENTH (18th) STREET AND NINETEENTH (19th) STREET AND BETWEEN BLQCK NO. SIX HUNDRED NINETY-ONE (691) AND BLOCK NO. SEVEN',l.HUNDRED FOURTEEN (714), AND VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING 'THAT PORTION O~ THE SIXTEEN (16) FEET ALLEY IN SAID BLOCK NO. SIX HUNDRED NINETY-ONE (691), EXTENDING FROM THE SOUTH LINE OF SAID BLo,CK TO THE SOUTH LINE OF LOT NO. SIX (6) AND LOT NO. TWENTY- SEVEN (27) IN SAID BLOCK NO. SIX HUNDRED NINETY-ONE (691), OF THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, IN HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. WHEREAS, the, City Commission of the City of La Porte has been requested by the fecord owners of all of Block No. Six Hundred'~ Ninety-One (691) to vacate, abandon and permanently close a portion of the sixteen (16) feet alley in said block and that portion of "A" Street commonly known as Polk Street between Eighteenth (18th) Street and Nineteenth (19th) Street; and WHEREAS, that portion of the said alley and that portion of "A" Street between Eighteenth (18th) Street and Nineteentlf .(:l.9th) Street have ~ever been opened or used as a public road, street, or for any other purposes; and WHEREAS, "A" Street, should it ever be opened between . Eighteenth (18th) .Street and Nineteenth (19th) Street, would dead- end at the railroad tra~,ks, and wo~'ihld be a hazard to pedestrians and traffic of all nature; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of La Porte has determined, and does hereby find, determine and declare, that the aney in said Block No. Six Hundred Ninety-One (691) and the herei~ after desc,ribed portion .of "A" Street are not suitable, needed or beneficial to the public as a public alley, road or street, and that the closing of the ,portion of said alley extending from the South line,of said Block No. Six Hundred Ninety-One (691) to the South line:of Lots No. Six (6) and Twenty-Seven (27), Block No. Six Hundred Ninety-One (691L and the hereinafter described portion of "A" S:treet is for the pr.otection of the public and for the public benefit, . and that the said portion of said alley and that portion of "A" Str~et should be vacated, abandoned and permanently closed; ~' :t.._::.~,~ .} -.."'\:, .'.. -. .' Page 2 of 2 . . ...2- NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CI'l'Y OF IA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. Under and by virtue .of the power granted to the City of La Porte under its Home Rule Charter and Chapter 13, Title 28, Article. 1175, of the Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas, 1925, that portion of the sixteen (16) feet alley in . Block No.. Six Hundred Ninety-One (691), extending from the South line of said Block to the South line of Lots No. Six (6) and Twenty-Seven (27),' in said Block No. Six Hundred Ninety-One (691), and that p'ortion 9f "A II' Street lying and being situated between Eighteenth (18th) Street and Nineteenth (19th) Street and between Block No. Six Hundred Ninety-One (691) and Block No. Seven Hundred Fourteen (714); in the Town of La Porte, Harris County, Texas, all , according to the map or plat thereof recorded in the office of the County Clerk of Harris County, Texas, are hereby permanently vacated, abandoned and closed by the City of La Porte. Sect;i.on 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from. and after 'its passage and approval.
