709
AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULAR ANNUAL ELECTION OF
THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR A POLLING
PLACE; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR RE-
TURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING
FOR NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING FEES FOR CANDIDATES;
AND PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COlVlMISSION OF THE CITY OF
LA PORTE, TEXAS" THAT:
Section 1. An election shall be held
within the corporate limits of the City of La
. Porte, Texas, on the 27th day of April, 1965;
such day being the fourth Tuesday in April,
between seven' 0' cl,ock (7:00) A. M. and seven
o'clock (7:00) P.M., for the purpose of electing
a Commissioner of said City for Position
Number 1 anda Commissioner of said City for
Posi t i on Number 3.
Sect i on 2. There shall be but one (1)
polling place, which shall be the City Hall, 10-

La Porte, Texas.
Section 3.

between seven o'clock (7:00) A.M.

and further notice of said election shall be given
by posting a copy of this ordinance at the City
Hall for thirty (30) days next preceding said
election.
Section 6.
Upon a candidate tendering his
application on the form prescribed, the City Clerk
shall furnish to such candidate all information
relative to the qualifications for the office being
sou g h t; the met hod of p I a c i n g the can did ate's n a m e
on the ballot,; the amount of the required filing
fee; and any other pertinent information concern-
ing said election.
Section 7.
The City Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to give notice of said
election in accordance with Section 5 hereof.
Section 8.
The filing fee for each can-
diaate shall ,be $50.00.
Section 9. Each and every provision,

election officials shall make due return thereof
to the City Commission and the City Commission
shall canvass the returns on the Monday next
following the 27th day of April, 1965, or
sooner, provided that in the event of a failure,
f rom any cause, of the Commi ssi on to convene on
the said Monday then the Commission shall be
convened for that purpose upon the earliest day
practicable t,hereafter, and shall immediately
after canvassing the returns declare the results
oft he' e 1 e c t i.o n and the Ma yo r s hall i m m e d i ate 1 y
thereafter deliver to the candidate for whom the
great est number of vot es have been poll ed for
the office of CommissionEt.r Position Number 1, a
certificate of election and the Mayor shall im-
mediately thereafter deliver to the candidate
for the office of Commissioner Position Number 3,
a certificate of election, and such elected
officials shall assume their duties within ten
(10) days t hereaf t er, Sundays excl uded.
Section 5. Notice of said election shall
be given by publication in the La Porte Bayshore
Sun, not 1 ess than t hi rt y (30) days pri or tot he
date of the said election, of the following
notice:
"NOTICE OF ELECTIONII
I, H. P.' Pfeiffer, Mayor of t he City of
La Port e, Texas, by vi rt ue of t he power
vest ed in me by 1 aw, do hereby order
that an election be held in the said
C i t Y 0 f 'L a Po r t e, T e x as, 0 nth e 27 t h
day of Apri 1, 1965, for t he purpose of
electing two (2) Commissioners of said
City, and that said election shall be

City Commission of the City of La Porte, Texas,
and each said provision would have been separately
passed without any other provision, and if any

pair or affect the remaining portion, or any part
thereof, but the valid portion shall be in force

This ordinance shall be in effect imme-
diately upon its passage and approval.
