4. .CONSIDER REZONING REQUEST OF ROBERT A. CHASE AND HORACE MANN -
. Horace Mann and Bud Sweeny, attended to request the Zoning
Commission to consider rezoning Block 980, Lots 1 thru 16
and Block 432, Lots 1 thru 32, La Porte. Mr. Mann's
business is primarily the handling of containers or the '
dispersal of the cont~nts. The property wi~l contain a
small buildi~g for handling the goods. Members present
decided ,that the business was acceptable for that type of
commerce. The P & Z Commission declined to rezone the area.

5. CONSIDER 'REZONING REQUEST OF, BAY-HOUSTON TOWING COMPANY -
FAIRMONT PARK PARKWAY - Evert Talbot and William Teague, re-
presenting Bay-Houston Towing Company and Reagent Chemical
and Research, Incorpo~at~d, requested rezoning of the area
bounded by 346.51 acres facing the South side of Fairmont
Parkway, 300 feet along the East right-of-way line. of the
Southern Pacific track, as the West boundary, a line
running East-West paralleling Fairmont Parkway as the Southern
boundary, and a line running North-South paralleling the '
Southern Pacific tracks, to facilitate a trucking operation.

The P & Z Commission decided to set up a building set back
line on that property which parallels Fairmont Parkway, .
extending 100 feet in depth, of which at least 25 feet of
the land adjacent to the parkway be a planted shield area.
The remaining 75 feet may be used as parking.
The P & Z Commission further decided a special use permit
be granted to Reagent Chemical and Research Incorporated. for
the remaining 200 feet of the property.

ORDINANCE NO. 780-,JJ

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 780, THE CITY OF LA PORTE
ZONING ORDINANCE, BY CHANGING THE CLASSIFICATION OF THAT CERTAIN
PARCEL OF LAND HEREIN DESCRIBED; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of La Porte
hereby finds, determines and declares that heretofore, to-wit,
on the 20th day of June, 1977, at 7:00 P.M., a joint public
hearing was held before the Planning and Zoning Commission and
the City Commission, of the City of La Porte, Texas, pursuant to
due notice, to consider the question of the possible re-c1assi-
fication of the zoning classification of the hereinafter described
.
parcel of land. There is attached to this Ordinance as "Exhibit A,"
and incorporated by reference he~ein and made a part hereof for all
purposes, a copy of "Notice of Public Hearing" which the City
Commission of the City of La Porte hereby finds was properly
mailed to the owners of all properties located within two
hundred feet (200') of the properties under consideration.
Section 2. The Publisher's Affidavit of Publication of
notice of said hearing is attached hereto as "Exhibit B,"
incorporated by reference herein and made a part hereof for all
purposes.
Sec,tion 3. Subsequent to such public hearing, the City of
. La Porte Planning and Zoning Commission met in special session
on June 20, 1977, to consider the changes in classification
which were the subject of such joint public hearing. The
City Commission of the City of La Porte is in receipt of the
written recommendations' of the City of La Porte Planning and
Zoning Commission, by letters dated June 20, 1977, the original
of which letter is attached hereto as "Exhibit C," incorporated
by reference herein, and made a part hereof for all purposes.
Section 4. The City Commission of the City of La Porte
hereby accepts the recommendation of the City of La Porte Planning

hereinafter described parcel of land, situated within the
corporate limits of the City of La Porte, is hereby changed
in accordance therewith, and the zoning classification of said
parcel of land sha-11 hereafter be "District C--Apartment and
Commercial District." The description of said parcel of land
re-zoned is as follows, to-wit:
Blocks Twelve Hundred Eighteen (1218) and
rourteen Hundred Forty-five (1445), TOWN OF
LA PORTE, and Tract Nine (9), JOHNSON HUNTER
SURVEY, all in the Town of La Porte, Harris
County, Texas.
Section '5. This Ordinance shall be in effect from and
after its passage and approval.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 20th day of June, 1977.
