HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-1968-786 '. . . l' ::"\ :1 . e ~'l ORDINANCE NO. 786 AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING THE MAYOR AND THE COMMISSIONERS TO POSITIONS WITH POWER, AUTHORITY; AND DUTIES IN THE SUPERVISION OF THE SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; AND APPOINT- ING THE COMMISSIONERS TO TERMS AS MAYOR PRO-TEM OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, FOR THE PERIOD MAY 1, 1968, THROUGH APRIL 30, 1970, , BOTH INCLUSIVE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. LOIS COMPTON" Commissioner, Position No.1, is hereby appointed Health, Recreation and Sanitation Commissioner of the City of La Porte, and as such Commissioner shall have all the powers and authority and the duties in the supervision of parks and other recreational facilities, the collection and disposal 'of garb~ge, r~gulation of ~he City garb~ge dump, control and elimination of mosquitoes and other insects, by spraying or otherwise, control of rodents, snakes, etc., by mowing of vacant property:or otherwise, ,and the enforcement of ordinances pertaining to septic. tanks. Section 2. CHARLES D. BOYLE, Commissioner, position No.2, is hereby appointed Water and Sewer Commissioner of the City of La Porte, ' and as such Commissioner shall have all the powers and authority a~d the duties in the supervision of main- tenance of the City Water System and improvements and extensions to such Water System, supervision of the maintenance of the City ,,.;" .,' ,~.. Sewer System, and theimp'rovements and extension of such sewage system. " Section. -"3. BOBBY J. BURGIN, Commissioner, position No.3, is hereby appointed Public Works Commissioner of the City of La Porte~ and as such Commissioner shall have all of the power and author~ty and duties in the supervision of the construction of and maintenance of the streets, alleys, ditches and sidewalks. Section 4. H. GOULD CROFOOT, Commissioner, Position No.4, is,hereby appointed Fire and Police Commissioner of the City of La porte-, an~ as such Commissioner shall have all of the powers and authority and the duties in the supervision of the . . -2- -. Fire Department and shall have all the powers and authority and the duties in the supervision of the Police Department, and the control of automobile wrecker calls and service. SectionS. All of the appointments contained in the preceding sections of this Ordinance shall be effective as of the 1st qay of'May, A.D. 1968, and for the balance of the terms of office of the Mayor and Commissioners of the City of La Porte. Any and all decisions, rules and regulations of each Commissioner ~s subject to review at any time, by the Mayor and/or the full Commission. , Section ..6. BOBBY J. BURGIN is hereby appointed Mayor Pro-Tern for the te.rm beginning on the 1st day of May, A.D. 1968, and ending at midnight the 31st day of October, A.D. 1968; LOIS COMPTON is hereby appointed Mayor Pro-Tern for the term beginning the 1st day of November, A.D. 1968, and ending at midnight the, 30th day of April, A.D. 1969; CHARLES D. BOYLE is hereby appointed Mayor Pro-Tern for:the term beginning on the 1st day of May, A.D. 1969, and ending at midnight on the 31st day of October, A.D. 1969; H. GOULD CROFOOT is hereby appointed Mayor Pro-Tern for the term beginning -the 1st day of November, A. D. 1969, and ending at midnight the 30th day of April, A.D. 1970, and the said BOBBY J. BURGIN,LqIS COMPTON, CHARLES D. BOYLE and H. GOULD CROFOOT, 4It shall serve in s~ch office during their said terms, during the absence or incapacity o~ the Mayor and shall do all things, perform ail dutie~' and in fact have all the powers and duties of the Mayor of the' City of La Porte for their respective terms, during such absence or incapacity of the Mayor. Section 7., This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and aft~r its passage and approval, and it is so ordered. PASSED AND AP~ROVED, this the 6th day of May, A.D. 1968. -." . , .
