AN ORDINANCE DECLARING EACH 'UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE ELECTED TO THE
OFFICE FOR WHICH HE FILED, IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE GENERAL ELECTION
SCHEDULED FOR HAY 3, 2003, PROVIDING FOR POSTING OF A COpy OF THIS
ORDINANCE ON ELECTION DAY AT EACH POLLING PLACE THAT WOULD HAVE
BEEN USED IN THE ELECTION, PROVIDING THAT A CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION
SHALL BE ISSUED TO EACH CANDIDATE IN THE SAME KANNER AS PROVIDED
FOR A CANDIDATE ELECTED AT THE ELECTION, FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH
THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1.
The City Council of the City of La Porte has
received a certification from the City Secretary of the City of La
Porte, dated March 25, 2003, a copy of which is attached to this
Ordinance as' Exhibit "A", and incorporated by reference herein.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of La Porte hereby
"
declares each unopposed candidate, as listed in the City
Secretary's:certification attached hereto, elected to the office
listed by the name of each candidate.
Section 3.
The City Secretary shall post a copy of this
Ordinance on election day at each polling place that would have
been used in the election.
Section 4. A certificate of election shall be issued to each
candidate in the same manner as provided for a candidate elected at
the election. The certificates of election shall be issued on May
12, 2003, and the oath of office shall be administered on May 12,
2003, or thereafter.
Section 5. The City Council officially finds, determines,
recites, and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date,
hour, place' and subject of this meeting of the City Council was
posted at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the
.

City for the time required by law preceding this meeting, as
required by the Open Meetings Law, Chapter 551, Texas Government
Code; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required
by law at all times during which this ordinance and the subject
matter thereof has been discussed, considered and formally acted
upon.
The City Council further ratifies, approves and confirms
such written notice and the contents and posting thereof.
Section 6. This Ordinance shall be effective from and after
its passage and approval.
