HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1977-03 '" . . . . e - RESOLUTION NO.' . . 7'7-'3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE REGULARLY EMPLOYED POLICE OFFICERS OF THE CITY TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO ANY OTHER MUNICIPALITY OR COUNTY REQUESTING SUCH ASSISTANCE, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO JOIN A MUTUAL AID LAW ENFORCEMENT TASK FORCE WITH NEIGHBORING CITIES. WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of La Porte, Texas, has determined that emergency situations arise when assistance is needed by municipalities or counties; and the legislature of the State of Texas has enacted legislation whereby a city or county could provide assistance to a city or county when such city or county by its authorized official requests assistance in the face of such emergency; it appears to the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, to be in the best interest of the City of La Porte to provide for emergency police aid; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY THAT, OF LA PORTE, TEXAS: THAT, the Mayor of the City be and is hereby authorized to provide the assistance of the regularly employed police officers of the City of La Porte, Texas, to any municipality or county requesting such assistance through its duly authorized office to aid in coping with situations where there exists in such other county or municipality a need for the services of additional law enforcement officers to protect health, life, and property of such other county or municipality, its inhabitants, and the visitors thereto, by reason or riot, unlawful assembly characterized by the use of force a.nd violence, or threat thereto by three (3) or more persons acting together or without lawful authority, or during time of natural disaster or manmade calamity. the Mayor of the City of La Porte, Texas be authorized to enter into an agreement with neighboring municipalities to wit: Seabrook, Webster, Friendswood, League City, . . . . e e Alvin and Pearland, to form a mutual aid enforcement task force to cooperate in the investigation of criminal activity and enforcement of the laws of this State, as provided for by Article 999b of the Civil Statutes of the State of Texas, as amended. The assistance offered hereby or received shall be in accordance with the provisions of Article 999b of the Civil Statutes of the State of Texas as enacted by the 6lst Legislature of the State of Texas, Acts 1973.
