WHEREAS, the Department of Energy is proposing a restriction on recreational watercraft; and WHEREAS, the measure requires that an owner of a watercraft shall not operate or permit operation of such watercraft one day a weekend, or both days of the weekend, as determined by the President or as specified by the Governor in accordance with the provisions of an approved State Plan; and WHEREAS, boa'ting consumes less than one-half of one percent of the nation's energy; and WHEREAS, the Department of Energy exempted other low fuel ,.e consumers from discriminating restrictions; and WHEREAS, industry lawyers argue that the discrimination against boating is illegal; and WHEREAS, recreational boating employs over 660,000 people and is a 5.7 billion dollar industry; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY CO~4ISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS: THAT, the Department of Energy's approving any such regula- tion is strongly opposed by said City Commission.
