RESOLUTION 81-27
A RESOLUTION NAMING AND DESIGNATING THE I. J. KIBODEAUX MUNICIPAL
SERVICES CENTER, IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF CITY COUNCILMAN I. J.
KIBODEAUX
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux was elected Water and Sewer Commis-
sioner of the City of La Porte in 1966, and was serving his eighth
consecutive term as a member of the La Porte City Council at the
time of his death on November 24, 1981; and
WHEREAS, during his many years of service in La Porte City
government, he served several terms as mayor pro tem~ and
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux served as Water and Sewer Commis-
sioner during mor'e than a decade of rapid growth and expansion
of the City of La Porte's water and sewer system, and was vitally
interested in the extensive water and sewer system improvements,
which were under construction at the time of his death~ and
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux, as Water and Sewer Commissioner,
worked diligently for many years to see that all residents of the
City of La Porte had sanitary sewer service available~ and
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux took great pride in the City of
La Porte sister city project with the City of Cd. Valles, Mexico~
and
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux was a member of the International
Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Iron Workers
Local Union 84, of which he was past president, and of which he
was serving as shop steward at the time of his death~ and
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux was a friend of the working man,
and was always sensitive to the welfare of all of the employees of
the City of La Porte~ and
WHEREAS, I. J. Kibodeaux was an active sports fan, and was
particularly interested in baseball, and was instrumental as a
member of the La Porte City Commission, in the planning and con-
struction of the Fairmont Park Sports Complex; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Ci ty Counc il of the Ci ty of
La Porte deem it appropriate to recognize his dedicated service
to La Porte City government, and honor his memory by designating
the recently-completed Municipal Services Center as the II I. J.
Kibodeaux Municipal Services Center":
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1. In recognition of the many years of faithful
service by I. J. Kibodeaux as a member of the City Council of
the City of La Porte, and his many contributions to the welfare
and betterment of the life of the citizens of the City of La
Porte, the City Council of the City of La Porte hereby designates
the new Municipal Services Center, and the same shall hereafter
be known as, the "I. J. Kibodeaux Municipal Services Center. II
Section 2. The Mayor and the City Secretary of the City of
La Porte are hereby directed to prepare an appropriate memorial
of this Resolution, and deliver the same to Mrs. Ruth Kibodeaux,
widow of I. J. Kibodeaux, as an expression of esteem for our
colleague, and as ap expression of sympathy to the family of I. J.
Kibodeaux.
Section 3. A certified copy of this Resolution, together
with a photograph of I. J. Kibodeaux, shall be displayed in a
conspicuous place in the II I. J. Kibodeaux Municipal Services
Center. "
