<br />- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 82- 16 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION NAMING AND DESIGNATING THE LA PORTE PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />AS THE 11 EDITH WILSON PUBLIC LIBRARY, 11 IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF <br />EDITH WILSON. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Edith Wilson retired as librarian of the La Porte <br /> <br />Public Library, in February, 1978, after eighteen years of ser- <br /> <br />vice; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the La Porte public Library was housed in a one <br /> <br />room building when Edith Wilson began her career as librarian; <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Edi th Wilson was instrumental in organizing the <br />communi ty to build a new library building, helping to organize <br /> <br />the Friends of the La Porte Library, who spearheaded the drive <br /> <br />for the new library building; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the new library building was completed and opened <br /> <br />in January, 1967, and was expanded in 1976; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Edith Wilson died on June 20, 1982; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, at the time of her death, Edith Wilson was active <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />in civic and church work, and was a director of Friends of the <br /> <br />La Porte Library; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, St. John' s <br />. Episcopal Church; Shoreline Art League; La Porte Civic Club; <br />and the La Porte Literary Club; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Edith Wilson will be long and affectionately <br /> <br />remembered by her many friends in the City of La porte, for her <br />years of unselfish service to her community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte deems <br /> <br />it fitting and proper to recognize and honor the memory of Edith <br />.
