RESOLUTION NO., 87-5
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS,
URGING ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS TO SUPPORT
LEGISLATION REAUTHORIZING THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
(CDBG) PROGRAM AND OTHER ASSISTED HOUSING PROGRAMS.
WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant Program has
provided municipalities with important and flexible assistance to
help meet the needs of our low and moderate income citizens as
neighborhood revitalization, housing rehabilitation, public
works, social services and economic development;
WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant Program has
had a significant impact on our local economies through job
creation and retention, physical redevelopment and improved local
tax bases; and
WHEREAS, additional Community Development Block Grant fund
reductions would impact the City of La Porte by further delaying
the construction and revitalization of needed community
improvement projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of La Porte urges
all Federal, State, and local officials to support legislation
reauthorizing CDBG at its current funding level of Three Billion
and No/100 ($3,000,000,000.00) Dollars for FY 1988, and to assist
other housing bills.
