RESOLUTION NO. 87-19 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE SUPPORTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES ON THE NOVEMBER 3, 1987, GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT WHEREAS, Texas cities actively supported economic development measures during the last regular session of the Texas legislature; and WHEREAS, economic development programs are vital to the continued fiscal health of Texas cities; and WHEREAS, Amendment No.4 on the November 3, 1987, general election ballot will, if passed, authorize the legislature to provide for programs and to make loans and grants of public money to aid economic development in Texas; and WHEREAS, Amendment No.5 on the same ballot will, if passed, authorize certain cities to aid the construction of turnpikes, toll roads, and toll bridges by guaranteeing bonds issued by the Texas Turnpike Authority; and WHEREAS, Amendment No.6 on the ballot will, if passed, authorize the legislature to provide for state financing of the development and production of Texas products and businesses; and WHEREAS, Amendment No. 11 on the ballot will allow local option property tax exemptions for inventory located temporarily in the state; and WHEREAS, Amendment No. 19 on the ballot will, if passed, allow the legislature to authorize $500 million in general obligation bonds to support the U.S. Department of Energy's superconducting supercollider if it is sited in Texas; and WHEREAS, these five amendments have great potential to assist Texas cities in their economic development efforts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE THAT the City Council of the City of La Porte supports passage of Amendments 4, 5, 6, 11, and 19.
