BE IT RESOLVED BY '!HE CI'lY COONCn. OF THE CI'lY OF LA PORTE: Section 1. The Planning and Zoning Conunission of the City of La Porte held a public hearing on November 19, 1987, and discussed a comprehensive amendment to the Zoning Ordinance of the City of La Porte, regulating signs and billboards. It was contemplated that final action on sign regulations would be taken by the City Council of the City of La Porte prior to January 31, 1988. To that end, the City Council on November 9, 1987, passed Resolution No. 87-25, creating a moratorium on the issuance of building permits for the erection of permanent signs and billboards in the City of La Porte. The Planning & Zoning Conunission of the City of La Porte has not passed on a final recommendation to the City Council regarding sign regulations, and no final action on sign regulations will be taken by the City Council prior to January 31, 1988, the date of expiration of the prior established moratorium. The City Council therefore hereby finds that a need exists to extend the moratorium created on the November 9, 1987, by Resolution No. 87-25, said extension of said moratorium to expire on March3l, 1988, on the issuance of building permits for the erection of signs and billboards in the City of La Porte. Real estate signs, and other signs of a temporary nature, except for portable signs, shall be excepted from this moratorium. Section 2.
