RESOLUTION NO. 88- 4
/
WHEREAS, waste disposal has become a major problem for
many states and cities; and
WHEREAS, recent attempts to dispose of waste from other
entities has received much coverage from the television and
news media; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas, and the City of Houston, in
particular, have been chosen as a site to dispose of waste from
an outside entity; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas is embarked on a campaign to
beautify the State and to keep Texas clean; and
WHEREAS, it is felt that the disposal of waste from
outside entities will be detrimental to the health, safety and
welfare of the State of Texas, the City of Houston, and
surrounding areas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of La Porte
is opposed to any disposal of waste into Texas.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of La Porte
strongly urges that State and Federal legislators limit the
amount of waste that can be disposed of outside of an entity's
boundary limits.
Section ~. That the City Secretary is hereby instructed
to send certified copies of this Resolution to State and
Federal. legislators in order that they be aware of the City's
position on this issue.
Section 4. This Resolution shall be in effect from and
after its date of passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED this the 8th day of February, 1988.
