HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2005-08 adopt Harris County All Hazard Mitigation Plan ~oos.og RESOLUTION A Resolution for Adoption of the Harris County All Hazard Mitigation Plan * * * * WHEREAS. certain areas of the City Of La Porte are subject to periodic flooding, hurricanes and other natural hazards with the potential to cause damages to people properties within the area; and WHEREAS, the City Of La Porte desires to prepare and mitigate for such circumstances; and WHEREAS, under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires that local jurisdictions have in place a FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Action Plan as a condition of receipt of certain future Federal mitigationfunding after May /, 2005; and WHEREAS, Harris County and certain the municipalities. in order to meet this requirement, have initiated development of a countywide, multi-jurisdictional All Hazard Mitigation Plan, including the City Of La Porte; NOW, therefore, be it resolved that this LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL hereby: Adopts the Harris County All Hazard Mitigation Plan; and PASSED AND APPROVED, on this, the .iJtd day ot'::1Mfoos. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. This act has a short title of "Disaster Mitigation Act of2000". This act set the requirements in Pre-disaster Mitigation Planning, who will participate in the plan and changes to the plan, The completion date for the Plan was November 2004. The Harris County Plan, which La Porte is participating in, was approved by FEMA May I, 2005. We are recommending the City of La Porte continue to participate with this plan and accept the approved changes that were submitted to and accepted by FEMA for this multi-jurisdictional plan. The changes did not affect La Porte. Action Reauired bv Council: Council to approve continued participation of plan and accept the approved changes by FEMA for multi- jurisdictional plan.
