ORDINANCE NO.2020-3809 <br />AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE SOUTHERN <br />HALF OF THE EAST "L" STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY SITUATED BETWEEN SOUTH <br />BROADWAY STREET AND THE TEXAS STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY, AND <br />AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION AND DELIVERY OF A DEED TO THE ADJOINING <br />LANDOWNER; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; <br />CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; <br />AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte has been requested by the record owner of <br />the property abutting the southern half of the East "L" Street right-of-way situated between South <br />Broadway Street and the Texas Street right-of-way, to vacate, abandon and close the southern forty <br />(40') feet of said right of way, and; <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte has determined and does hereby find, <br />determine, and declare that the southern half of the East "L" Street right-of-way situated between <br />South Broadway Street and the Texas Street right-of-way is not suitable, needed, or beneficial to <br />the public as a public road, street, or alley, and the closing of the southern half of the East "L" <br />Street right-of-way situated between South Broadway Street and the Texas Street right-of-way is <br />for the protection of the public and for the public interest and benefit, and that the southern half of <br />East "L" Street right-of-way situated between South Broadway Street and the Texas Street right- <br />of-way should be vacated, abandoned, and permanently closed. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br />Section 1. Under and by virtue of the power granted to the City of La Porte under its home rule <br />charter, Chapter 62 of the City of La Porte Code of Ordinances and Chapter 253, Texas <br />Local Government Code, the southern half of the East "L" Street right-of-way situated <br />between South Broadway Street and the Texas Street right-of-way is hereby <br />permanently vacated, abandoned, and closed by the City of La Porte, such right-of-way <br />being generally illustrated on Exhibit "A" incorporated herein, and further described to <br />wit: <br />Being a tract of land containing 0.235 acres, being the southern half of the East "L" Street right- <br />of-way, located in Block 1159, Town of La Porte, Harris County, Texas, and be more fully <br />described as follows: <br />BEGINNING at the intersection of the east right-of-way line of South Broadway and south right- <br />of-way line of East "L" Street (80' wide); <br />THENCE, in an easterly direction along the south right-of-way line of East "L" Street, a distance <br />of 256' to its intersection with the west line of the Texas Street right-of-way (60' wide); <br />THENCE, in a northerly direction along the projected west line of the Texas Street Right -of -Way, <br />a distance of 40' to the center point of the East "L" Street right-of-way; <br />THENCE, in a westerly direction along the centerline of the East "L" Street right-of-way a <br />distance of 256' to its intersection with the east right-of-way line of South Broadway; <br />
