Joerns, Assistant City Manager Date: 09/28/99 Re: Proposed Driveways - LPISD As you requested, on 9e I contacted Milne Clausen regarding the new drives for Reid and Rizzuto Elementary Schools. He thought the architect had talked with us and apologized for not keeping us informed. He agreed to discuss/consider any suggestions the city may have. That same day, Mr. Clausen dropped off preliminary plans for staff review. Planning reviewed the plans on 9/3nd, Police on 9/7m and Public Works on 9/8m. The attached pages represent the city's concerns and the school response. The school is accepting bids at this time. They will review proposals on 10/5m and will take the best proposal to the school board on 10/1e. Prior to the use beginning, the school plans to educate/advise parents of changes through use of flyers and/or meetings. As of today's date, we have not received completed plans from the school or the architect I spoke with Mike Clausen on 9/21" and requested the finalized plans. He will talk with the architect and assured me their final plans included the agreements made in the 9/14m meeting. A separate issue discussed in the same meeting addressed access to the Reid Elementary School from the apartments now under construction All parties feel a sidewalk from the new apartments to Reid School is a good idea City and school staff will coordinate with the developer. Suggestion: Developer could install a walk-thru gate and sidewalk from eastern property line of the complex to the school's existing jogging track With the use of the track, the school would only have to install the remainder of a walk from the track to the school. This routing will provide access while keeping elementary kids away from Fairmont Parkway traffic.
