HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2022-18RESOLUTION 2022-18 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ADOPTING THE 2022 APPRAISAL ROLL OF THE HARRIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT. WHEREAS, the Harris County Appraisal District has submitted to the City Council of the City of La Porte, for approval, the 2022 tax appraisal roll; and WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that the 2022 appraisal roll with the amounts shown therein should be adopted; WHEREAS, the Harris County Appraisal District has certified to the City Council that there was situated in the City of La Porte, Texas, as of January 1, 2022, property with a total appraised value of $5,491,010,520 and a total taxable value of $4,580,765,239. WHEREAS, new personal property added to the appraisal roll had a total taxable value of $910,349,763 as of January 1, 2022; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, THAT Section 1. The 2022 tax appraisal roll, showing that there was situated in the City of La Porte, Texas, as of January 1, 2022, property with a total appraised value of $5,491,010,520 and a total taxable value of $4,580,765,239, as submitted by the Harris County Appraisal District, is hereby adopted; Section 2. The City Council officially finds, determines, recites and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City Council was posted at a place convenient to the public at the offices of City of La Porte for the time required by law preceding this meeting, as required by the Open Meetings Law, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all times during which this resolution and the subject matter thereof has been discussed, considered and formally acted upon. The City Council further ratifies, approves and confirms such written notice and the contents and posting thereof. PASSED AND APPROVED this the 120 day of September, 2022. The no -new -revenue tax rate would impose the same amount of taxes as last year if you compare properties taxed in both years. The voter -approval tax rate is the highest tax rate a taxing unit can adopt without holding an election. The proposed tax rate is $0.71; therefore, a public hearing on the tax rate is not required. The fiscal year 2022-23 proposed budget was built around a tax rate of $0.71. The breakdown of the tax rate is as follows: Maintenance and operations = $0.622 Interest and sinking = $0.088 In accordance with current legislation, staff will place a notice in the paper informing the public of the date and time the governing body will vote and approve the tax rate. Staff anticipates publishing the notice seven (7) days prior to the public meeting, which will take place on September 26, 2022. This notice concerns the 2022 property tax rates for City of La Pone. This notice provides Information about two tax rates used in adopting the current tax year's tax rate. The no -new -revenue tax rate would Impose the same amount of taxes as last year if you compare properties taxed in both years. In most uses, the voter -approval tax rate is the highest tax rate a taxing unit can adopt without holding an election. In each case, these rates are calculated by dividing the total amount of taxes by the current taxable value with adjustments as required by state law. The rates are given per $160 of property value.
