HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2024-14 - extend disaster decl. for 30 daysRESOLUTION 2024-14 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, CONTINUING THE DISASTER DECLARATION ISSUED BY MAYORAL PROCLAMATION ON JULY 7, 2024, IN RESPONSE TO HURRICANE BERYL WHEREAS, on the 81" day of July, 2024, the City of La Porte, Texas, suffered widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from Hurricane Beryl; and WHEREAS, on the 71" day of July 2024, the Mayor of the City of La Porte issued a proclamation declaring a state of disaster for the City of La Porte, Texas, in response to Hurricane Beryl that will expire o n July 14, 2024, unless continued or extended by the La Po11e City Council; and WHEREAS, the C ity Council of the City of La Po tte, Texas, has determined th at conditions necessitating a declaration of disaster continue to exist, for which extraordi nary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate prope1ty. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS: 1. The recitals set fo1th above are true and correct and are incorporated as if fully set forth herein. 2. Pursuant to §418.108(b) of the Texas Government Code, the proclamation issued by Mayor Rick Helton on July 7, 2024, declaring a state of disaster for the C ity of La Porte, Texas, in response to Hurricane Beryl shall continue for 30 days unless continued or renewed by the C ity Council of La Porte, Texas. 3. Pursuant to §41 8.108(c) of the Government Code, this declaration of a local state of disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the City Secretary. 4. Pursuant to §418.108(d) of the Government Code, this declaration of a local state of disaster activates or continues the activation of the City's Emergency Management Plan. 5. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance. PASSED AND APPROVED this, the 13th day of JULY, 2024.
