<br />MINU.F SPECIAL MEETING OF THE LA PORT~Y COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 2, 2004 <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Barry Beasley at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Members of City Council Present: Council members Chuck Engelken, Howard Ebow, Peter Griffiths, Tommy Moser, Mike <br />Mosteit, Louis Rigby and Mayor Pro Tem Barry Beasley, Mike Clausen and Mayor Alton E. Porter <br /> <br />Members of Council Absent: None <br /> <br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Emoloyees Present: City Manager Debra Feazelle, Assistant City Manager John <br />Joerns, Assistant City Manager Cynthia Alexander, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Martha Gillett, Public Works <br />Director Steve Gillett, Police Chief Richard Reft, Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Suggs. Fire Chief Mike Boaze, <br />Assistant Fire Chief John Dunham, Assistant to the City Manager Crystal Scott and EMS Chief Ray Nolen. <br /> <br />Others Present: Betty Waters, Leon Waters, Gary Rice, Spero Pomonis. Cooper, Jon Schlenk, Jeanette Parsens, Russell Lunsford, Jerry Bartel, <br />David Bailey, Don Hulen, Mike Shannahan and a number of other citizens and students. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Beasley delivered the invocation. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Beasley led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br />. 4. <br /> <br />Council to consider approval of Regular Meeting and Workshop Meeting Minutes held on July 26, 2004. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilmember Enaelken to aoorove the Minutes as oresented. Second by Councilmember Griffiths. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Engelken, Beasley, Griffiths, Moser, Mosteit, Rigby and Ebow <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />5. Council to consider approval or other action regarding an ordinance declaring the results on the Special Election held in <br />the City of La Porte on July 24, 2004 for the election of a Mayor and Council Member District 6 as presented. <br /> <br />Motion was made bv Councilmember Ebow to aoorove the Ordinance 2004-2760 as oresented. Second by <br />Councilmember Griffiths. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Engelken, Beasley, Griffiths, Moser, Mosteit, Rigby and Ebow <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />6. Administer Oaths of Office to the new Mayor and Council Member District 6. <br /> <br />City Attorney Knox Askins administered the Oaths of Office to Mayor Porter and District 6 Council member Clausen. <br /> <br />7. <br /> <br />PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND TAX PAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS <br />COUNCIL ON ANY ITEM POSTED ON THE AGENDA - (LIMITED TO FIVE MINUTES) <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sylvia Garcia congratulated the newly elected Mayor Alton E. Porter and District 6 Councilmember Mike <br />Clausen. She wished them well and advised the Mayor and City Council she looked forward to continuing to work with the <br />City of La Porte <br />
