Call to Order <br />The Police Civil Service Commission Meeting was called to order at 2:04 <br />pm. <br /> <br />Commission members in attendance: <br />Keith Trainer, Commission Char <br />Les Bird, Commission Vice-Chair <br />Heather Weger, Civil Service Director <br /> <br />Others in attendance: <br />Ken Adcox, Chief of Police <br />Ron Parker, Assistant Chief of Police <br />Steve Deardorff, Assistant Chief of Police <br />Ed Swenson, Lieutenant <br />Doug Ditrich, Sergeant <br />Steve Ermel, Sergeant <br /> <br />2. Consider approval of minutes from April 7, 2008 meeting <br />Approval of minutes was moved to next meeting. <br /> <br />3. Review and Discuss Physical and Agility Exam for Police Officers. <br />Ken Adcox gave a presentation to the Commission on why he feels La <br />Porte should implement a physical agility test for new applicants. He <br />stated their was a sharp decline in health and fitness amongst police <br />officers, the city is very vulnerable, the lack of a physical agility test could <br />have grave consequences and increased liability to the City of La Porte as <br />well as presenting a poor image of the City. The main reason is for the <br />safety of our officers and the safety of our citizens. <br /> <br />The Commission was in agreement that a physical agility test was <br />necessary for the safety of our officers and of our citizens, but wanted the <br />names of the agencies that these components came from. <br /> <br />Les Bird agreed that we need a test of this sort, but wanted the names of <br />the agencies and the supporting documents and research that was done <br />to come up these cut scores. <br /> <br />Ken Adcox stated there was a concern for the current officers and the <br />Police Department was going to encourage voluntary participation <br />amongst the department. <br />
