• e <br />LA PORTE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION <br />• MINUTES <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 19, 19$8 <br />Chairman Doug Latimer called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. <br />Members Present: Commissioners Charles Boyle, Inge Browder, Janet <br />Graves, and Lola Phillips <br />Members Absent: Bobby Blackwell and Jack Gresham <br />City Staff Present: Joel H. Albrecht, Director of Community <br />Development; Ervin J. Griffith, Building Official/Zoning <br />Administrator; Nina Bergeron, Community Development Secretary; Bob <br />Speake, City Engineer; John Armstrong, Assistant City Attorney; <br />and John Joerns, Assistant City Manager <br />Others Present: Ronald Flood and Russell Wilson, incoming <br />Commander and Member of V.F.W. Post ~~8251 <br />First item on the agenda was to consider approving the minutes of the <br />April 21, 1988 Regular Meeting. Inge Browder made an amendment to the <br />minutes changing the word "and" to "as" on the first page, third <br />paragraph, last sentence. There was a motion by Charles Boyle and a <br />second by Inge Browder to approve the minutes with the amendment. The <br />vote was unanimous and the motion carried. <br />Public Hearing was called to order. <br />Second item on the agenda was to consider a Special Conditional Use <br />Permit Request by the V.F.W. Post No.8251 to allow a fraternal <br />organization to be located within a R-3, High Density Residential Zone <br />on Lots 16-19; Block 305; La Porte. <br />Ronald Flood, incoming Commander of Local V.F.W. Post 48251, came <br />forward and described to the Commission what the V.F.W. would like to <br />do. He explained that they would like to tear down the one building <br />that is in very bad repair and then bring the other building up to <br />code using the restaurant area for meetings and the bottom floor of <br />the adjacent building for storage. <br />Mr. Flood was asked if he was familiar with the requirements for <br />parking and landscaping. He replied that he was aware of the <br />requirements and would comply with these as soon as possible. <br />• Russell Wilson came forward and spoke in favor of the proposed Special <br />Conditional Use for the V.F.W. <br />
