MINUTES OF LAPORTE AD HOC SPORTS ASSOCIATION - FEBRUARY 16, 1989
The second meeting of the LaPorte Sports Association was held on Thursday,
February 16 1989, at the Public Works Building. Those present were David Hyde -
City of LaPorte, Lee Allen - LaPorte Soccer, Cathy Hanzelka - LaPorte Dogfish,
Debi Clark - LaPorte Raiders, George Van Dyke - LaPorte oilers, J.B. Williamson -
LaPorte Boys Baseball, and Kylan Lewis - LaPorte Cowboys.
The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.
President, Lee Allen, introduced J.B. Williamson of the LaPorte Boys Little
League Baseball as a new member of the Ad Hoc Sports Association.
Lee Allen also suggested that the meetings follow no set agenda in order to
meet the needs of all the organizations represented.
David Hyde reported that the City of LaPorte had purchased three 10 X 10 canopies
for the use of all sports organizations. Use of the canopies will require a
$75.00 deposit that will be refunded when the canopies are returned in good
condition.
Lee Allen suggested that all organizations use LaPorte's local publications
for the various sports schedules. David Hyde offered the use of his free
space in the Bayshore Sun. David also offered to distribute flyers at various
locations in the city.
Due to the large number of pony league players, J.B. Williamson requested the
use of additional fields for practice. The new baseball fields will not be
completed before Spring Break, however David Hyde offered to arrange a schedule
for the teams on the existing fields. David also suggested that the City of
Deer Park be contacted for additional fields.
The large soccer field at Fairmont Park will be reseeded in March, therefore,
Lee Allen asked that all soccer and baseball teams avoid the field during
practice.
J.B. Williamson reported that the pony league fields needed some of the lights
replaced. He also noted that pipes had been donated for a sprinkler system
and only the heads needed to be obtained.
David Hyde volunteered to send a letter to all Ad Hoc members as a reminder
of the next meeting.
Cable advertising for 30 seconds every hour should be turned into the City
of LaPorte approximately three weeks in advance. The LaPorte Sports Edition
also furnishes free advertising.
The next Ad Hoc meeting was scheduled for Thursday, April 20, 1989, 7:30 p.m.
in the Public Works Building.
Cathy Hanzelka, Secretary
Lee Allen, President
