City Attorney
City of La Porte
P.O. Box 1218
La Porte, TX 77572 -1218
Dear Mr. Askins:
We have received the results of the May 14, 2011 election to create the La Porte Fire Control,
Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District to adopt a 1/4% sales and use tax within the
district. The 1/4% local sales and use tax will become effective on October 1, 2011.
This tax will be administrated as a special purpose district tax, which means that the crime control
district will receive its allocation payments separately from the allocation payments to the city. You
have confirmed that the special purpose district will have the same boundaries as the corporate
boundaries of the City of La Porte. At your earliest convenience please provide us with a listing of all
businesses that provide utility, cable, and waste disposal services within the city so that we may notify
them of the new district sales tax, prior to the effective date.
We will contact you in the near future for the information we need in order to arrange for your sales tax
allocation payments to be made by direct deposit as required by state law.
Also, as provided by law, the district will be dissolved five years after it begins to levy taxes for district
purposes if the district does not hold a continuation or dissolution referendum.
If you have any questions or need more information, please call me toll free at (800) 531 -5441, extension
39634. The regular number is (512) 463 -9634.
Sincerely,
(6 ,
