ADMINISTER
OATHS OF OFFICE
BUILDING CODES APPEAL BOARD
Purpose: To provide a comprehensive review of construction codes and make a
recommendation to City Council and to hear and determine appeals from applicants.
Term: 3 Year term
Meeting Time: On an as needed basis.
Eligibility Requirements: They must be a resident or non-resident individuals owning or
operating a business within the City of La Porte. Council will determine competency based on
experience and training in matters pertaining to building construction.
May not be employed by the City of La Porte.

Minutes of August 15, 2007
Members Present: Terry Bunch, Ken Schlather, Ron Holt, John Elfstrom and Paul Larson
Members Absent: Tom Campbell and Bruce Compton

1. CALL TO ORDER
Meeting called to order at 6:03 P.M. by Vice-Chairman Terry Bunch.
2. CONSIDER APPROVING MINUTES FROM THE APRIL 26, 2007 MEETING
Motion to approve the April 26, 2007 minutes, as submitted, was made by Ken Schlather.
Second by Ron Holt. Motion passed unanimously.
3. REVIEW, DISCUSS AND CONSIDER ACTION ON STAFF COMMENTS ON
ADOPTION OF 2006 CODE EDITIONS WITH LOCAL AMENDMENTS
Following a discussion by the Board, John Elfstrom made a motion to recommend
adoption of the 2006 codes with local amendments noted in staff's report. Second by Mr.
Schlather. Motion passed unanimously.
4. REVIEW, DISCUSS AND CONSIDER ACTION ON IMPLEMENTING 2006
RESIDENTIAL CODE REQUIREMENT (R301.2.1.2), PROTECTION OF
OPENINGS IN WINDBORNE DEBRIS REGIONS
Following a discussion by the Board, Mr. Elfstrom made a motion to recommend
deleting this requirement (by local amendment) from the 2006 residential code. Second
by Mr. Holt. Motion passed unanimously.
5. REVIEW LIST OF BOARD TERM EXPIRATIONS AND INFORM ON PROCESS
OF TERM RENEW ALSIREPLACEMENTS
List was reviewed and discussed (information purposes only). No action was necessary.

6. ESTABLISH NEXT MEETING DATE, TIME AND TOPICS
Mr. Schlather made a motion to hold the next meeting on September 20, 2007 at 6 p.m.
with the following agenda item: Discussion of Chapters 1-3 of the 2006 Fuel Gas Code.
Second by Paul Larson. Motion passed unanimously.
7. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Mr. Huber advised the Board that the annual board training class will be in September or
October. Board will be contacted with exact date.
8. BOARD COMMENTS
None
9. ADJOURN
A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Schlather with a second by Mr. Larson. Motion
passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
