Matt stated he would like to see the 80 point rule for retiree benefit eligibility be eliminated
and allow employees to have the option of having the retiree benefits without 80 points. He
stated he thought it was an unfair rule that hurt the employees that started their careers with
the City at a young age and benefitted the employees that started their career at an older
age. He also stated he was in agreement with the sliding scale that is currently in place and
wouldn't mind looking at possibly increasing the percentage the employee was responsible
for paying for 20 -29 years of service. The Committee discussed the possible cost impact of
such and the best way to obtain the cost. Steve Valerius suggested hiring an actuary to
determine the cost and possibly presenting that to Council depending on the cost.
