LA TORTE CITY COUNCIL
ArRIL 23/34
Meeting was called to order by Mayor H B Harrison.
All members of the council answered to the roll call.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and secretary was in-
structed to make certain cY?anges.
The following bills were presented and ordered paid.
News Pub. Co., X46 95. Wilson Sta. and Ptg. Co.,~23 60.
Western Union Tel. Co.,.48., Sou. W Bell Tel. Co.,~9 65.
Wilson Sta. and Ptg. Co., ~5 55. Houston Chronicle., w3 00.
The secretary was instructed to write J H Rafferty and ask
hdm to set a date convenient to himself to meet with the Street
and alley committee to work out a plan of drainage as per his
letter addressed to the Hon. H B Harrison under date of April
29th.
The secretary was instructed to pay the interest on the American
La France x;1,000,00 note due April 11/34 amounting to x:15,00
and the Finance committee was instruucted to work out a renewal
date on the note.
A motion was made by Ald. L C Lawrence and seconded by Ald.
Counts to instruct the secretary to write J ~~~ Shelor and
M E Settegast to remove the fence they have constructed across
Holies st.between the Bay and Roscoe ave.

A proposal from Norris Bros.to trade two dump trucks far tax
title lots,was presented t o the council.
Ald. Counts made a motion which was seconded by Ald. Roark
that the mayor appoint L C Lawrence and Geo. Sharp to inves-
tigate the condition of the trucks and report back to the
councdtl at the next meeting.
Carried
Ald. C M Agee asked for authority ~o purchace pipe and pipe fittings`
for stock.
Ald. Counts ofT eyed a motion which was seconded by Ald. Sharp
to table request.

that the hayor be autr~orized to appoint ar. attorney to be
pre sent at all meet ink; s .
Ald. Agee reported that bar. Jno. S liiibler• agreed ,to sit at
the council meetings :.~'`t~i~>>~~#2~,for the purpose of
giving legal advise. The Mayor appinted Mr. giibler~
r. .
r'~l~:i.e3•TTlaxl ~h~r~p made a motion which was seconded by Ald. Counts
that the appointment of Nr. Kiibler be ratified.

The Secretary presented a list of accounts recievable by
water consumers which he reccommended be transfered to the
Profit and Loss account as the accounts were several years old
and mostly uncollectable amaunting to~p633.10.
Ald. Counts offered a mo~ion which was seconded by Ald. Lawrence
that the secretary be given autb.ority to make the transfer as
shown by the list.
Carried.
The question of the legality of Geo. Blair acting in the capacity
of engineer for the Water• Department in as much as N:r. Blair
was related to Mr. L C Lawrence was brought to the attention of
the council.
Alderman Lawrence offered a motion which was seconded by Ald.
Counts that the matter be tabled until an investigation could
be made and t'h.e findings be reported at the next meeting.
Carried.
No other business to come before the council adjournment was taken
